CNN has reported that federal authorities are searching for thousands of conversion devices that render semi-automatic Glock pistols into fully automatic weapons that are considered to be machine guns. There is a reason why, when inventors came up with compact select-fire weapons using pistol cartridges, they put a buttstock (even a wire skeleton version) and/or a vertical handgrip under the barrel: a conventional pistol design in full auto fire is going to send most rounds into the sky (or the ceiling.)
