'The Suspect'

His name was not released, but he has a criminal history, police said. [More]
Why don't we know his name? The story's been out for 18 hours now.

Is information being withheld for whatever reason? How can we tell?

That's one of the points -- the inability for independents to do some digging on their own -- that I was trying to make in yesterday's AmmoLand piece. Those arguing that you can suppress the name but not the facts haven't fleshed out how you can rely solely on information coming from "officials" and filtered through the DSM.

UPDATE: So the same government that won't let citizens bear arms is the one that keeps inflicting this predator on the populace.  What's a fella got to do to prove he can't be trusted without a custodian?

  1. At the Santa And PD press conference last night they would only say that the suspect was Hispanic as were all of the victims. I would not be surprised if the guy is an illegal alien given that Santa Ana was one of the few cities in Orange County that voted to enforce California "Sanctuary State" Bill SB 54. The majority of the other city councils in OC voted to defy it.

I live in a neighboring city and most of Santa Ana is old and run down. The last time I went to the Civic Center in Santa Ana it had a huge homeless camp all around the Superior Courts building. I sure wouldn't want to get stuck with jury duty and have to navigate around that dirty, smelly mess.

Investigators were seeking to determine what allegedly motivated Zachary Castaneda to target the victims Wednesday...":

  3. “Authorities said the 33-year-old man accused of stabbing four people to death in a rampage across two Orange County cities is a known gang member with a criminal record dating back to 2004. But detectives said they still were not sure why Zachary Castaneda allegedly went on the attack Wednesday, saying the violence appears to be random and that he didn’t know those he targeted.”
