Rift Over NRA Highlights Fundamental Divide among Gun Owners

What will ignoring grievances accomplish, and how will it keep more of them from occurring? Some of us believe we are in an existential fight for the future of the Republic, and one that can devolve into much more serious conflicts than calling each other names. And speaking for myself, if you “compromise” for or enable any form of citizen disarmament, sorry, we’re not “on the same side.” [More]
It depends upon what the meaning of the word "waver" is.

Missing the Point

The offer the President announced today is a loser for the forgotten American workers who were central to his campaign promises. An amnesty-for-wall trade would once again reward previous immigration lawbreakers without preventing future immigration lawbreakers. This kind of amnesty deal will incentivize more caravans, more illegal border crossers and more visa overstayers at the expense of the most vulnerable American workers who have to compete with the illegal labor force. [More]
Do you guys really think that's the greatest danger?

Strictly Speaking

It would say: “The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The sovereign state of Iowa affirms and recognizes this right to be a fundamental individual right. Any and all restrictions of this right shall be subject to strict scrutiny.” [More]
Oh we can't have that! It wouldn't be "commonsense"!

Teach Your Children Well

Middle school children in Iowa to be given classes on how to handle guns after teenager died in accidental shooting [More]
It's a good first step, but nothing makes a safety impression like being taught how to fire a gun, and hearing and feeling the power.

Escape from New York

The Supreme Court agreed on Tuesday to hear a challenge to a New York City gun ordinance that does not allow people licensed to have guns in their homes to transport the weapons outside the city. [More]
You wonder who could be against that and what justification they could possibly have, and then you read:
Lawyers for the city responded that the law was justified by public safety considerations.
I'm having another John Wayne moment, except instead of "hit" the word "hang" comes to mind...

Tracking Down a Shutdown NICS Allegation:

From an email received yesterday:
My FFL guy just told me that he got an email today from ATF, stating that in the absence of an LTC, they are only doing NICS checks 8a-5p M-F, and not at all on the weekends.  I asked him if this was because of the shutdown. He said that he didn't know, and the letter didn't say.
We knew data reportingwould be delayed and it's been reported "those processing applications for new FFLs or suppressor transfers haven’t clocked in since last month."  But this information seemingly contradicts the FY 2019 DOJ Contingency Plan, which states:
Excepted personnel also include nearly all federal employees supporting the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
I've asked my source for a copy of the email letter and have put out a few feelers. Anybody got anything definitive to add?

UPDATE-- This, apparently, is the issue:

If by 'Uneven' You Mean 'Treasonous'...

Federal circuit courts of appeal continue to have an uneven record in enforcing Second Amendment rights. [More]
We will never get an unequivocal "shall not be infringed" unless and until there is a credible "or else" attached to the demand.

Slump Derangement Syndrome

Taking It Personally

No it does not. You'd think someone up for being the government's "top lawyer" -- as opposed to an ignorant dumbass -- would grok that simple fact.

And "shall not be infringed" leaves very little room for subjective "reasonable regulation."
