The crappy thing about this is that one day there WILL be a virus that WILL decimate the population. It's happened before, and we'd be fools to think it won't happen again. Trouble is, the MSM will have cried wolf so many times, no one will believe a word it says. ...Oh... Wait... The MSM is already at that point... ... Carry on...
That article (which was written for clicks after all- making them just the tiniest bit hypocritical) is pretty glib, considering the author takes the official numbers as fact... when they are both misleading and probably false. Misleading because the deaths always lag the infections. False because the Chinese government never tells the truth.
Consider the Chinese government response to this "non-problem". Does cancelling LNY and all the lost money make sense? How about closing all the schools in China for at least a couple more months? How about canceling all the tour groups and all the lost revenue that means? Or shaving a few points of GDP by restricting travel for 50 MILLION people?
The chinese LIE. I'm afraid that in this case, their actions speak loud and clear about how serious they consider the threat to be.

Oh, and remember that the CDC hasn't exactly covered themselves in glory, especially regarding the previous ebola outbreak. They've gone from "it's not an issue" to "this is really serious and rapidly changing" in less than a week.
