"This is what happens when the rules of democracy are disregarded."
The Founders, many of whom were Virginians, were repulsed by the idea of the new nation they built becoming a democracy. That is the primary reason why we don't have one. What they gave us, instead, as Dr. Franklin famously said, is a republic. In addition, they gave us a republic limited in its powers by a constitution.
Correcting Mr. Horowitz: "This is what happens when the rules of a constitutional republic are disregarded by those who never tire of bleating the word "democracy."
