  1. But his deputies do. They do it every day. Judgement calls on which observed offenses deserve to be officially noted are part and parcel of the job at their level. The system would choke and grind to a halt if it wasn't.

    Don't act like a chump, Sheriff. No one is buying it.

  2. Actually sheriff, that is in fact what minor American historical figures like Thomas jefferson and james madison said is your duty. Wisconsin citizens, including sheriffs, refused to enforce the Fugitive Slave Act, and citizens nullified it during jury trials.
