“The heavily armed individuals who flaunted themselves at the protest, calling themselves a ‘civil guard,’ were there for one reason: To menace protesters, to present an unsanctioned show of unregulated force. To menace the people of New Mexico with weaponry — with an implicit threat of violence — is on its face unacceptable; that violence did indeed occur is unspeakable.” [More]So the official position of the Democrats is armed demonstrations and defensive actions by "Deplorables" is criminal menacing and worse, while armed Chazzercizers are patriots and nothing to worry our pretty little heads about?
Besides, let's review the bidding:
The shooting occurred during a fight between a man in a blue shirt and people trying to pull down the statue. The man was pushed onto the street, and then protesters started advancing toward him, some threatening him. The man in the blue shirt pulled a can of pepper spray from his pocket and sprayed it. At that point, the man in the blue shirt appeared to have pulled a gun and fired about five shots, wounding one person. The man who was shot appeared to have been one of the individuals advancing on the man in the blue shirt.Sounds like self-defense to me. So look for the Michael Strickland treatment.
My biggest question: Why defend a statue of an indigenous peoples-massacring Spanish conquistador in the Age of Reconquista?
Talk about a perfect opportunity to sic the Aztlánistas on 'em -- and then make some popcorn.

Police say Williams had hit Steven Baca with the longboard.
Despicable newspaper tries to make a big deal out of “The video recording did not depict any physical injuries on Steven’s person sustained from the longboard strikes.”
Too bad -- ADW is a justification for lethal force even if it fails to connect.
The joker in the deck may concern Baca's alleged actions prior to the longboard attack. But again, the newspaper hedges its accusations with lots of "appeared to be" and "seems to show."
And you're right -- why bother defending that particular statue?
Remember Menachem Begin. Terrorist to the British. Freedom fighter to the Zionists. And eventually Prime Minister of the restored State of Israel.
ReplyDeleteHe ended up in the Prime Minister's slot instead of a quick drop to the end of a British rope because of one critical fact.
His side won.
History is written largely by the winners.
So, do we want our grandchildren to be taught that we were patriots or that we were terrorists?
It ain't exactly rocket surgery. ;-)
