Everyone in Seattle should remember, the correct type of tar is now called Swedish Tar, which is sold on Amazon. Feathers are available in stores selling pillow making materials, Hobby Lobby probably has them.
Or, if you want to go contemporary and don't care that "the Founders never could have envisioned those things," superglue and packing peanuts. (And yes, superglue gets pretty toasty too.)
