But Fear Itself

Fear has become a new virtue. Never before in the history of this country have we told people that fear is good,” or to “settle into” those fears and allow them “to control and constrain your life,” said McDonald, who spoke at the American Front Line Doctors White Coat Summits in July and October. [More]

Of course, we have. What the hell do you think the entire "gun control" movement has been about all these decades? And some of the worst spreaders of that are the damned gunquacks.

With Unfriends Like These...

For a product that made its top guy a multi-billionaire, Facebook really does have some crappy, limiting, and non-intuitive software from an end-user viewpoint. It's what it doesn't do but should.

I've noted before because I only use it to promote my article links, that I do not send out friend requests. I only accept them, and that's after giving a friend request a once-over to make sure the requestor looks to be interested in RKBA, and to try not to let spammers, grabbers, and purveyors of "nude photos" in. But what Facebook doesn't do is tell me who has "unfriended" me. Instead, you need to use third-party software, in this case, "Unfriend Finder."

I get notified if anyone drops me and access a screen that looks like this:

The "red" deleted me, for reasons anywhere from they deactivated their account (there seems to be a lot of that going around lately) to they've decided they want nothing to do with me. Ah, well.

I then go to my Facebook page, click on the "friends" link, and enter my ex-cyberpal's name. If it's a case of a deactivated account, this is what I see:

Since I have no idea why they did it and if they'll ever be back, I click on "unfriend." I figure if they change their mind they'll be back. As for other reasons, sometimes I see their name does not appear so no action is needed on my part.

Twitter is pretty much the same. For that, I use Who.Unfollowed.Me.

Yeah, I know about Gab and Parler and MeWe and have accounts with all, but they just don't produce enough article readership results to make it worth my limited time.

And for those of you who make a point of telling everyone you never use "social media," well, just so you realize you are ceding an effective ideological battlespace to the enemy. Until such time as it's no longer worth my while, I'll continue using it as ADVOCACY media.

[Via Mack H]

UPDATE (received via email):
Kessler was denied his concealed carry permit in Albermarle County (Charlottesville, VA) by their Circuit Court judge after receiving an affidavit from the Commonwealth's Attorney of Albermarle County.  He was denied the permit because he was convicted of felony perjury for lying about the dude who 'assaulted' Kessler at the Unite the Right rally.  I'm a Virginian and 2A lover, but here in the Old Dominion, you ain't getting your permit if you're a convicted liar in open court.  Dude's a felon.  End of story. Plus the scumbag factor is off the charts for this guy.  Were there shenanigans involved?  Highly likely.... but Kessler didn't appeal the felony perjury charge and actually pleaded guilty to it... got 30 days - suspended 30 days.  He can appeal the concealed carry permit decision of the circuit court judge within 60 days, I believe.  But dude's a convicted felon... an appeal to carry in Virginia isn't gonna change a damn thing.

I purposely did not include a link at the end of my latest "gun safety" article, because it went to a piece from years back when I used the word that is the bane of anyone who knows anything about guns, "clip." I knew someone would pick up on that and make that and my evident ignorance the focus instead of the discussion I was inviting.

It's something I quickly learned not to repeat lest it bring hot coals and derision down upon my head, but in my defense, one of the writers who had influenced me was decorated combat legend Col. David Hackworth. He used it on occasion, and I figured I'd leave it to someone else to insist that he was wrong and deserving of their scorn:

Night of the Evil Butterball

This is my traditional Thanksgiving essay, first posted in 2000 and updated every year since:

Attacks by roving flocks of wild turkeys are on the increase around suburban Boston. [More]

Time was, the turkey was considered a game bird. The Pilgrims at Plymouth are said to have feasted on them (perhaps). Generations later, Ben Franklin considered it such a useful fowl that he nominated it for the national bird.

Of course, this was in the days when the right to bear arms was taken for granted, when free people hunted turkeys for sustenance, all the while honing marksmanship skills that would serve them well in time of need.

Fast-forward to present-day Boston, a place of sacred tradition, the literal forge for our heritage of individual liberty. Except Boston is now a place where traditions have been betrayed. Its current overlords have succeeded in disarming the whole people in a way that General Gage could never have conceived possible.

So successful have these rulers been that the city that gave us Sam Adams and Paul Revere is now a city under siege, and this is fittingly ironic if you think about it, by wild turkeys. So helpless and hapless are Boston’s modern-day patriots, they can do little except retreat from the aggressive gobblers, escape, hole up and plead for rescue from the very authorities that enforce public impotence.

This is what the heirs of The Sons of Liberty have been reduced to. This is what they have allowed, and in many cases, demanded. Human beings, with dominion over the earth, scurrying from turkeys. The tolerated degradation of the masses is damned near complete.

This does not escape the notice of those who impose their tyranny upon us. What new outrage are they now free to impose? What can’t they do? After all, we’re talking about subjects who would cede their birthright to birds.

The greasy-lipped masters have to be laughing like hell as they reach across their table of plunder and rip off another drumstick…

ATF Issues Conflicting Documents on Legal Pistol Braces [More]
It appears they sent the same documents in response to my FOIA request. John Crump has gone on to get a response from SB Tactical addressing some of ATF's claims.

I did get a note from WarOnGuns Correspondent Dave Licht who shared a related video:

He also asked about  "SB Tactical’s plan for protecting ... their customers" and expressed the opinion:
They should publicly burn all their customer records TODAY and post the video on all platforms BEFORE atfyou can subpoena their client list. Anything else will be delivering their customers to the NKVD.
I'll need time to review this against what I was asking for and to talk with Stephen Stamboulieh about the next moves if any.  My primary concern was determining why a field office was making national policy for ATF and why this was not a release from HQ or Firearms Enforcement Programs, and determining every ATF official who signed off on it. It all goes back to having arbitrary rules that reflect bureaucratic political agendas and that can land people in jail.

As far as the technical details, I don't focus on hardware and think a guy like Crump is better qualified to give that analysis. I'll need time to see if I can advance this particular ball any further.

It won't be today or tomorrow.
