One of the tortures of my 11th grade English class was the "compare and contrast" essay.
ReplyDeleteSo just for grins, lets compare Biden v Trump in 2020 to Bush v Gore in 2000. In the midst of all the press coverage of the dimpled chads, the hanging chads and the pregnant chads (One of my coworkers had the honor of being named Chad. He declined numerous opportunities to explain just how a Chad could become pregnant), the army of Gore lawyers, opposed by the army of Bush lawyers, were attempting to get the Florida Supreme Court to order a recount in those Florida counties that Gore's team felt might yield a few more votes. When the Florida court agreed, the United States Supreme Court threw the "14th Amendment Equal Protection Clause" penalty flag saying a recount of any ballots would require a recount in all 67 counties. The Florida Secretary of State said that such a statewide recount could not be completed in the time left before she was required by law go certify the results.
Bush won Florida, its Electoral College votes, and the Presidency by a little over 500 votes.
Months later, two media powerhouses financed a full recount of all 67 counties, and found that it showed Bush had won by a bigger margin that was originally reported.

Imagine of Biden v Trump had been handled the same way and by the same folks as Bush v Gore.
