The various states are already ignoring many of the Fed's drug laws. Medical and recreational cannabis as well as decriminalizing harder drugs in some western states.
Not to mention ignoring all the illegal migrants streaming across the border with the Feds looking to other way.
Simply put, in Prinz SCOTUS ruled that the 10th Amendment and founding era documents prohibit Congress from tasking local law enforcement with enforcement of federal laws.
They can if they want, and many do, but they can't be forced.
