What the progressives want is Soviet style high rise apartments for everyone (except the elite). It's so much easier to control people who are warehoused in a hive, and with thin walls, informing on the non-conformists next door is facilitated... although I suppose requiring everyone to have an Alexa in every room would accomplish the same thing.
