We're the Only Ones Friendly Enough

As Boston police prepare to go into some of the city's most dangerous neighborhoods, knock on doors of private houses, and ask if they can search for illegal guns without a warrant, officials are trying to pitch the idea of the plan as friendly cooperation to residents who still see it as a threatening intrusion.

A friendly looking logo - a drawing of a house surrounded by the sun - adorns the brochure police have drafted to explain and promote the initiative, "Safe Homes." Photos of officers playing baseball with children and chatting with teenagers dot the pamphlet.

Well there's a rose in the fisted glove...

Oh, but it's "voluntary"...

The very concept ought to be offensive to a free people. As it is, the offensive concept for most is freedom.

Massachusetts again, I see...where "The Only Ones" intend to make sure they are the only ones.
What did Mr. Franklin say about exchanging Liberty for Safety...?

These people are starting to sound like Vichy "conservatives", or as I'm going to start to call them, The VC...

  1. I would suggest they come around to my house and ask the same question, so's I could treat them to some obscene, hair-raising curses. And think of the cops who will actually do this stuff, thinking that they are only following orders.

  2. These people are starting to sound like Vichy "conservatives",

You're beginning to sound like MoveOn.Org.

Anybody who works across the aisle is traitor to the cause.

Only people who believe exactly what you believe can be free to call themselves conservative (or is that with a capital 'C'?)

Who is your favorite Democrat? Lieberman perhaps? Someone who pisses off the MoveOn/Huffington Post/Daily Kos crowd the same way McCain seems to be impacting you.

So hate McCain. That's your right. Vote Conservative Party or Libertarian. That's your right. And then celebrate when Hillary or Obama enact a version of the assault weapons ban that the Brady Bunch salivate over. Go ahead. It is your right.

And as you turn in your guns know that you stayed true to your "values." And hated the rest of us.

  3. As I turn in MY guns?

You VC are the compromisers and surrenderers, not me, lady.

Some of us actually believe what we say. You sell out if you want to and back a tyrant. I'm through playing that game.

The frog will either jump or not. We shall see.

But I'm not giving you McCain. You can't have him.

You absolutely have no idea, do you?

  4. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and all other tyrants would only have been lonely isolated crackpots if not for the accomodaters.

The accomodaters must take their share of the blame. How to tell if you are an accomodater? Easy! If you feel compelled to take a step back from yourself and your rights when they take a step forward and you must convince yourself you are being "reasonable" because this is just one little thing, not worth the pain and inconvenience of resisting, you are an accomodater.

When the results of that accomodation occur, it is your fault moreso than that of the tyrant you enabled. Tyrants are defective humans and cannot help their egos or bent toward cruelty and hunger for power, when one can help it and resist it and does not, he carries more guilt because he knew better, but was weak.

  5. Zendo,
So tell me, what will you do when one of McCain's buddies introduces that "version of the assault weapons ban that the Brady Bunch salivate over" and McCain signs it into law? Will you have the courage to pick up the cartridge box or will you meekly hand over your weapons and kneel for the chains?

What David, StraightArrow, myself, and others have been trying to tell people is that McCain really isn't any better than the slime proposed by the democrat party.

If gun owners would just stop voting for the lesser of 2 evils and vote FOR a candidate rather than AGAINST a candidate perhaps we could get somewhere.

However, so many gun owners are so afraid that we might lose that they give up and we lose anyway.

What I really don't understand are the people who say that they want to live in the land of the free, but who then work to reduce that freedom. There are plenty of places in the world where people are not free, where the people are subjects, where the government rules and the people obey. Only here have people been accorded the rank of citizen with a government by and for the people.

  6. Um, is that, like, a swastika laying in front of the door in that logo?

Zendo: I appreciate and understand your continued attempts to salvage the Party but for some of us, it's too late. The Republicans have been telling me all my life that A) They don't look all that bad with a bag over my head and B) nobody else wants me anyway. Then when I go along with it, they put a check in my mouth and do something icky in the mailbox. I'm sick of it.

  7. I never said McCain was my first choice. My question is who are you gonna vote for now? McCain or Clinton? McCain or Obama? or some third party?

  8. Fine - if you think there is no difference between McCain and Obama (who is on record wanting to outlaw semi-automatics) that is your right.

Most of us don't believe that.

But of course you are right and we are wrong. I'm happy for you being right. (Or at least thinking you are.)

  9. Roberta, you beat me to it...first thing I noticed.

Zendo, who was your first choice? Are members of "the other side" ALWAYS wrong? Is Bush the greatest president ever? Are you unhappy it's not 60 days out yet?

McCain's already PASSED "laws" trashing other Rights, (with a capital R) he's pushing government approval of PRIVATE sales of guns (the ATFU will have a nice registry won't they? Would they keep the 4473 on file immediately, as opposed to when the dealer is shut down, remember you must spell out the word or you're committing a willful violation), amnesty for criminal invaders...yeah, he's just swell. I have to go to a McCain rally so I can swoon and faint if he looks in my direction.

  10. The graphic is just me having some fun with the original.

Zendo, I see you have the Ben Franklin Liberty/Safety quote on your website. Nice words, huh? That's apparently all they are to you. Right alongside "shall not be ingfringed."

See, by assuming everyone will react like you and surrender their guns, you've told me all I need to know about you--you have no line in the sand, and thus no real commitment to liberty. There's no outrage you are unwilling to suffer where you will create an "or else" for your persecutors. Because of that, what you "think" is disqualified from being unimportant to me.

  11. I just love how the police cross their heart that the fruit of this poisonous tree won't be used to prosecute murderers.

"[Deputy Superintendent Gary] French said police will test all the guns to see if they were used in shootings. But he said he doubts any child would be arrested as a result of the search, even if police found a gun that turned out to be a murder weapon....

"If I stopped you today and you have a gun, that doesn't suggest that you had that firearm two months ago," he said. "It doesn't put you at the scene of a crime. . . . If we don't have any information that ties you to the earlier crime, that investigation is going to go nowhere.""

    Nice!

Either he's lying and using his pablum to make the bitter taste of an unconstitutional search go down or he's not lying and admits that these searches will do nothing to solve crimes.

    A pox on them all!
