...and Marines don't train in IndianapolisSo they're just training for the Middle East, right? It would be tinfoil hat ridiculous to speculate on training for domestic deployments, wouldn't it?
in the summertime...
I look at America's urban areas as tinderboxes ready to erupt. I look at the drive to disarm as many people in the cities as they can, I factor in things like rising energy costs and potential blackouts, the prospects of a long, hot summer, talk of food supply disruptions, anger, crime, racism, gang members in the tens of thousands, and even unexpected developments in the presidential race...and I'd be surprised if there aren't those in government assessing the same factors, plus ones we don't know about. In this environment, there are untold catalysts that could trigger a very bad sequence of events.
I'd be surprised if the one thing that doesn't scare the rulers more than anything is what will happen if they actually shoot any rioters--less than lethal tools won't stop armed mobs, and if multiple rioters are shot and killed, I believe rioting will spread to other cities...Or perhaps I am hopelessly naive, and there are some who would benefit from that...
That's the kind of thing that can lead to martial law--and I doubt Katrina-style disarmament bans will be covered under those circumstances.
Here's hoping this is just baseless hysteria, conspiracy kookiness, a misreading of signals, and that we can all look forward to a summer of love as our Hope prepares us for Change.

Long term storage food and ammo would be good things to purchase with our Chinese stimulus package money.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a matter of "IF" but "when."
ReplyDeleteMy boss is a liberal, voted for Kerry, Obama supporting guy... yesterday he asked me if I would take him to the range to show him how to use my AR. He said he wants to get one too.
Why would he want that, unless he's coming around to my way of thinking? I think he's starting to see what I've seen for a while, and he's unprepared. He also started talking about buying some land and putting in a well and solar panels.
I'm loaning him the book, Patriots! Surviving the coming collapse. I suggest everyone get that book and read it. It has some great ideas.
David, a lot of things are pointing at government types being worried about the people becoming sick of the scam being run on them. In every half ass size city in the country there are big training projects that have been going on. Even in Boise (believe it or not, its a small city) we have had many big government armed training projects. We just had one at our mall with many hundreds of police from local, state and federal all working together. My hunch is the training was to get everyone working with one command post and they treated the stores as different targets. To learn how to work together doing many raids at the same time from one command post. Facts state, if we have one or two crazies at the mall who are armed attacking citizens. Hundreds and hundreds of police are not the answer and wouldn't be used as well. So the reasons offered for the mall training with hundreds and hundreds of cops is not true. Always remember a government that lies to its citizens is not a government for the citizens.
ReplyDeleteYes David, something is going on and the people feel it and know things are not right. Have you noticed that people are not selling any of their firearms in this economy. In the past with unemployment going up people sold a firearm or two for some fast cash, not today.
Of course something is going to happen, and people in power know how the cards are going to be played. The people do not and the ones that can see outside the box are on egg shells. It doesn't take much of an IQ to see that these raids are training to be used against us the citizens. The proof is, the southern border is wide open so the government isn't worried about bad guys coming into the country. The government is worried about who's in American now, which is us.
I wonder - wouldn't it be more effective, if soldiers and Marines are "training for Middle East urban combat," to put them in the gang-infested areas for the training?
ReplyDeleteavgjoe, while i agree that something serious is going on, i just want to point out the flaw in your logic:
ReplyDeletechildren are trained in reading, writing and 'rithmetic in big groups of 20, 30, 40 -- yet they will probably get single-serve desk jobs. it's just plain much cheaper to train a bunch of people all at once, for one task. that's too easy of an explanation for that example to be far off.
The flaw in the logic here is that they HAVE urban warfare training cities that have been built specifically for this. They've been in one big long urban warfare scenario for the last how many years in Iraq?
ReplyDeleteAre the marines REALLY lacking in the urban training that would be required for invading a first world nation?
Gradualism. Conditioning.
One frog turned to the other and asked "did it just get warmer in this here pot?"

ReplyDeleteI was one of three or four voices of reason on the local news website that covered this. We were mocked, dismissed as tinfoil-hat loonies, and denigrated as anti-american and unpatriotic because we don't want to roll belly-up and worship the Marines.
ReplyDeleteI also had an opportunity to speak with the Mayor of Indianapolis one-on-one about this, and raised my concerns about Posse Comitatus and how these "training scenarios" were more reminiscent of post-Katrina ANG than preparing the troops for Middle Eastern MOUT.
His answers were not very reassuring.
I understand the skepticism, but with all due respect I think you all are being a bit paranoid. This is hardly unusual training. I’ve participated in these types of exercises before. This misplaced suspicion is funny and sad. This kind of training has been going on for many years, but since 9/11 the tinfoil helmets have gotten a lot thicker. The conspiracy theorists were hyperventilating during URBAN WARRIOR in the late 90’s and we got a good chuckle out of them back then, too.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the Marine Corps having urban training facilities, yes that's true. However, those facilities are typically fairly small and sterile sites that quickly become familiar to the Marines that constantly use them. Conducting these types of operations in a more realistic, dynamic environment is very valuable training and an excellent opportunity to test their skills in a setting that is not completely familiar to them.
I would bet that these guys are reservists from the local area, not active duty military, and regardless, they are not on some sinister secret mission to round up Americans and send them to the gulags. Remember that “one weekend a month, two weeks during the summer”? Yeah, this is the Marine reserves annual two weeks of training.
There are some disturbing trends in the USA, for sure, and I share many of the same concerns over the governments overstepping its bounds and its lack of accountability but you guys are barking up the wrong tree here. I’m sure that won’t stop some of you from continuing with the conspiracy theories, but I thought I’d inject a little reality into the discussion. Just remember, never attribute to malice what can be more easily explained with stupidity or incompetence. If only the military really was even halfway as ruthlessly efficient and sinister an organization as some people seem to think... the war on terror would have been over long ago.
