"The city in fact is not under siege," Paysinger told reporters at an afternoon news conference. He's right, you know. A siege is when the enemies are outside your gates.
I'd tend to view the Bloods, the Crips, the SureƱos, the Asian gangs, and the 18th Street Gang as competing occupying barbarian armies.
And sorry if you think you might need to take steps to protect yourself on the street during the latest "blip"...the answer is "No." In LA, we reserve that privilege for "The Only Ones."
And here's a cheery thought:
And it is everywhere. According to the Department of Justice, today America has at least 30,000 gangs, with 800,000 members, in 2,500 communities across the United States. (Gang experts at the University of Southern California claim the number of American jurisdictions with gang problems has reached 4,000.) Federal, state and local law enforcement across the country agree that street gangs connected to or mimicking the L.A. model have become a national epidemic.
All enabled and made possible by the very government policies we as a nation seem inclined to provide more of, which I guess is what they mean by "Hope" and "Change."
Gosh, I hope I'm not sounding overly alarmist. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
800,000 out of a population of 320,000,000 and yet those areas where the majority of the gang members operate...the ones with millions of people, are held hostage? Why might that be?
ReplyDeleteWhat policies are in effect that would subject the honest American to be nothing but a target for crime?
Where is the OTHER armed occupying force made of millions of members nationwide who is tasked with enforcing the laws that would round up these criminals? Why with their bottomless buckets of government cash hasn't anything been done about this?
As Americans with open eyes we know the answers. We dodge the bullets from both sides while we're treated as criminals and prey by the combatants in this half-assed "war on drugs/crime/guns/poverty/gangs/terror"
There's too much money to be made and power to be consolidated for anything to be done to solve the real problem.
What is it the anti-gunners say? "We live in a civilized society, not the frontier, so nobody needs a gun."
ReplyDeleteMaybe they should go into the gangsters' territories and explain that to THEM?
The gangs are about to find out that they've been displaced as the alpha predators. If gun ownership is going to make us criminals anyway, what reason is there to hold back, live in fear and hope the gangs never notice ME?
