A Word About Sidebar Ads

They hardly bring in enough to make it worth the clutter--and despite setting things up to tailor ads to the blog, the one that's most prevalent seems to be for bimbo-wear. I guess they figure that "guns" = "male"= "lapdance customer."

One of the t's & c's is we can't ask you to click on them, because that would artificially boost what they pay us, because supporters would click on an ad they had no interest in. I have no problem abiding by that rule.

But I didn't see anything about asking you NOT to click on an ad--I just noticed one that showed up for the first time today and my suspicion proved correct--it goes to AHSA. If you see this ad, please ignore it--it is unwelcome here. In the mean time, I need to see what I can do to kick these subversives off my site.

OK--just "filtered" them--hopefully we won't be troubled again.

  1. Seems to me I've seen that several times here, but can't come up with a time frame... maybe a week? I do visit a lot of gun blogs and fora, so maybe that's where I've seen it too. Can't remember.

Anyway, I'll be pleased to ignore it though I'm certainly not happy with the NRA either. :(

  2. Ray Schoenke's been paying big bucks to get that ad spread around. I've seen it primarily on Topix.net and some on Huffpo along w/ his associated blog post advertising it.

  3. The scariest part about the bimbo wear is the "Plus Sizes Available" tag. ----- Yikes.

  4. I kind of thing the blond is cute. I wouldn't let my wife out the door dressed like that or dress like that in front of the kids. Nevertheless, it sure beats a lot of other ads I've seen.
Boys, they might draw the idea that we are older guys and could use some of "those" pills. LOL!
    So it could be worse.

  5. AHSA- America Hating Sycophants Amalgamated? Or Amoral Horses Supersized Asses? Assholes Harboring Seditionist Assholes?

    Hey, just asking.

  6. You can block any ad you want. Go to "Adsense Setup" and click on "Competitive Ad Filter."

  7. I dont usually pay attention to the adds. Sorry. But if I do see the asha add again on a blog that I like will certainly click on it. I have a legitimate interest in keeping an eye on them. Bringing revenue to an ally while costing the enemy seems like a good idea too.

  8. I like women just fine, and I also like it when they're showing skin, but this blog isn't the place for it. I wouldn't mind at all if they disappeared.

  9. Only ad I've ever had show up is the "bimbo" wear one.

  10. Actually, instead of barring the AHSA ad, you should leave it. After all, every time someone clicks on it, it costs them money. :-) If they want to waste their money preaching at the enemy, that's their problem.

  11. You got something against bimbos and lapdance customers? :-)

    Some of my best friends...

  12. Their ad would almost be funny if they were not lying through their teeth. Oh well... unlike the Brady Bunch, a group of anti-gun folks who actually understand this New Media was bound to come along eventually...

  13. Wait....there are ads on this blog?

Hmmm, perhaps not seeing ads has something to do with JavaScript in Firefox being disabled:
    > script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"
Yep, that looks like the reason.

David, I genuinely appreciate the fact that your pages degrade gracefully. Thank you.
