Gun owners and society as a whole need to adopt the idea of the "Negligent Discharge." Just like how car crashes are no longer legally refered to as "accidents" and are now "Collisions," saying the "gun went off" or "accidental discharge" takes responsibility away from the person who pulled the trigger due to inattentiveness. The military did this years ago because they know that rifles don't go off unless you squeeze the trigger.
Calling these "negligent discharges" will also take the idea away from peoples minds that guns are just time bombs waiting until a child is in front them to release their anger.
