It is a point of freedom of religion and freedom of conscience that I, or any other person choose to trust the LORD for our life on this earth, and in eternity.
By determining that I and others like me are somehow wrong and the enemy, you yourself become the tyrant. I (and others like me) are not asking you to disarm. All we are telling you or anyone else is that you will respect the house of the LORD God. If you care to enter into the sanctuary, then respect and honor the LORD. If you don't care to to that, then don't enter in. No one is making you, and there exists no right for you to be there. Attendance in the house of God is a free choice and a privilege, not a right. Moreover you, nor anyone else has the right to tell me (or anyone else) what I will believe, and how I will practice that belief.
I (and many other fundamental Baptists) am one of the strongest supporters of individual liberty, and the Second Amendment. I make one exception, and some of you go ballistic and think I am somehow become your enemy.
You had better get real, and get a grip — attitudes like yours drive people AWAY from supporting and defending RKBA.
That's fine if you don't understand it. I don't really expect you too. But you had better respect my individual liberty just like I respect yours.
I am not taking a bullet out of anybody's misapplied sense of politeness, civility and respect.
Jesus's disciples carried swords and knives for more than cutting up bait. Jesus commanded that those who did not have a sword to sell their cloak and buy a sword.
Didn't Jesus himself use the parable of pulling your beast of burden out of a well on the Sabbath depsite the commandment to rest on the Sabbath?
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 10:28-33, KJV)
And the Scripture also plainly states:
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:36-39, KJV)
Do you really want to trade Scriptures? You will lose — I guarantee it. On balance, the Scripture will condemn your opinion.
I'll hazard the reason for the shooting of the pastor is more interesting than we really care to know. It is very, very rare that a pastor or church members are shot during services for reasons of religious persecution. Somebody did something they ought not have — and knew better.
In such instances, one cannot expect the LORD to protect them. If (this is a big "if") I were in that kind of "church" I would be inclined to go armed too.
I'm not trying to enter the current debate--which is well beyond me--but local news is full of speculation that the killer is mentally ill, as a result of lesions on his brain caused by Lyme disease.
Gee Paul, that is mighty Christian of you, throwing mud on the name of the dead. We know the shooter couldn't have been influenced by the constant stream of hate that the mainstream piles upon Christians.
Personally, I have no problem with a church barring the carrying of weapons. But it should not be a matter of law. If a church wants to allow it's members to carry weapons, it should have that right.
A 'mentally ill white guy', with a 'semi-auto weapon' and multiple magazines, apparently planning a massacre in a 'criminal protection zone'; this might have been the BHO awaited crisis to loose Holder's blitzkrieg on gun owners, but for a couple of joes who took him down fast.
You need to go back through Mr. Higgins' posts of January 2009, and see the posts and comments he made and have knowledge of the e-mails he sent.
He is a provocateur, and likely a Federal agent or snitch. My comment to him, which was "Oh yeah, you're the nitwit . . ." was strictly in the context of his provocations and attempts to get whoever he could to begin discussing subjects in a manner that would get them arrested.
Calling Mr. Higgins (if that is his real name) a nitwit was probably not the wisest thing to say, but it is a far cry from calling someone a Pharisee. Personally, I don't believe it is very bright of someone to openly encourage others in discussions that would get them the unwanted attention of the Feds. Moreover, it's dishonest and deceitful. Anyone who attempts to draw others into situations where they would likely get tagged for "terroristic" conversations is in rebellion.
on David's blog, knowing full well that David is not likely to delete it (due to David's openly stated policy on comments), is as far as I can see, attempting to set David up.
I am not like that, and what you see is what you get. I am plain-spoken, very direct, and I state what I see. Whether anyone agrees with me or not, I respect their right to hold their particular beliefs, and will tell them what I know to be true. There are folks who frequent this blog that I have major differences with, but you will never find me calling them a “nitwit” or other some such thing because they never warrant it. Do I tell them they need to come to Christ? Certainly. Do I believe I know and understand the doctrines I hold to? Absolutely. I do not publish them unless I am certain.
Though I do not agree with Straightarrow, and do not care for Straightarrow's language, I have more respect for Straightarrow, and can get farther in a discussion with him, than with someone who is fundamentally dishonest.
David and I do not see eye to eye concerning our religious beliefs, and I count David as an honorable man. Were I in need of a friend to help, I am convinced he would be there if at all possible. I don’t see that character in Mr. Higgins. What I see is a snake in the grass, and I commented appropriately — the man’s a nitwit in need of an education.
And yes, Mr. Higgins does need to come to Christ. Whether I am a good witness for Christ or not, attempting to use my bad witness as an excuse before the Judgement seat won’t wash.
"“Y’all live on the frontier, I guess,” said Sen. Jim Luker, D-Wynne, after listening to arguments in favor of allowing concealed weapons in churches.
Luker said “if we go there on this issue, you can bet that it won’t be long before we’ll be hearing from folks who want to carry their gun” in other places where they are banned, such as schools.
“I’m not willing to acknowledge that our society has broken down to the degree that we’ve all got to start carrying a gun to protect ourselves,” Luker said."
This was offered by Jim Luker, a Democrat (read socialist).
Then the apology needs to be on my part, and I apologize. Moreover, I agree with you: More guns in society would actually make it more peaceful for a number of reasons.
I am sorry if I came off a bit peeved and sensitive about the issue. I have had a lot of folks who cannot seem to understand, hammer me on this one point.
I will confess - I tend to get a bit crotchity when people start offering to get out their respective 'Good Books' and start to whack on other folks with 'em.
I live about 8.5 miles away by car from that church, and probably not much over 5 as the crow flies.
ReplyDeleteClose to home.
Well, at least he died in a gun-free zone where God takes care of His own.
ReplyDelete(Boy, that was a snotty comment.)
SamenoKami,
ReplyDeleteHe very likely went home — you know, where Lazarus went* (Luke 16:19-31).
Just where will you go when you pass of this earth?
You know, everyone is going to die, and it really is irrelevant when and where — the fact is you are going to — no exceptions.
*I can't know the man's heart, as that is between the LORD and that man. But, if his heart were right with the LORD, he went home.
I am sick of seeing these comments. They're spoken like a mantra.
ReplyDeleteSomeone go heat up the tar. I'm gonna start shakin' out some pillows.
