Common Sense Airline Security

The passenger was looking through a carry-on bag when she apparently realized that she was carrying a Swiss army knife with a 1 1/2 inch blade and another knife with a 2 1/2 inch blade, authorities said.

She told a crew member and the plane was turned around. [More]
Why she said a word is beyond me--I guess the conditioning is stronger than the ability to think.

It must be, because look at what happened.

This is officially insane.

  1. I can tell you why she said something: Baaaaaa baaaaaa baaaaaa
What should have happened is the the crew should have just taking them and returned them once the plane hit the ground. The problem with that is no one on the crew would take a chance of being screwed over by some big mouth. So they had to do it the way the federal government would demand that it be done.

  2. I have nightmares about this kind of thing, or used to. Since I almost had to clock a TSA goon in a dispute over a belt buckle and not going through the arch again UNTIL I TELL YOU!, the dreams are not so much anxiety as anger.
If she had simply left the knife on the seat to be found by a cleaning crew, airports could have been shut down nationwide.
    Really insane.

  3. Yep, the sheeple are very conditioned. What a dunce.

    What a stupid flight crew.

And what a stupid nation we've become that an airplane would return to its take-off point because of 2 knives that the person VOLUNTEERED to having.

    It is insane!

  4. [...] Exploiting the TSA for fun and profit [...]

I was trying to imagine what would motivate someone to do this. Only thing I could think of is why I would do something so apparently stupid.

  5. Flight crew HAD to respond in that manner. The passenger could have been a plant to see what they would do and to punish them if they did something sensible.

  6. I've inadvertantly taken a 6" fixed-blade knife aboard a plane in a carry-on after the new whack-job TSA take-over of so-called airport security... on an international flight loaded with jet fuel. Sound familiar? Well, my knife didn't stab anybody, nor even threaten to.

  7. I got a bit of a scare a few years ago when undressing on the other side of the country after 3 transfers & an initial security scan when I emptied my pockets and found several forgotten rounds of pistol ammunition - that had been placed in the little bowl for pocket items each time I went through the security checkpoints (traveling across USA via commercial airliner).

  8. "...the plane was turned around."

Best laugh I've had this week.

We're at the point, though, where that very level of "security" opens up some security holes for an enemy determined to use them. A group of pranksters could cancel half a dozen flights at once. A terrorist group could use self-confessing plants like that to draw attention away from real targets. And that's just what I've thought of since I've started typing.

  10. There are usually pointy, serrated, 4 to 6 inch steak knives GIVEN to passengers with their fillet in first class on long flights. Just for fun, a friend took one off his first flight, and told the TSA guard what it was and where it came from, and asked to take it back onto the next plane to "return" it to the airline. Much foolishness ensued.

Security theater is not about security.
