When in Scottsdale...

...avoid Duke's Sports Bar & Grill like the plague. [More]

That is, unless you enjoy being dissed and endangered by an ignoramus.
People realize alcohol and guns don't mix...This is going back to the Wyatt Earp days of the Wild Wild West...I will get the biggest, brightest sign I can get up the hour it passes
Good grief. Yeah, you just keep enabling people to get drunk, Al, and then sending them on down the road.

McCarthy. I wonder if he's related to Carolyn...?

I also wonder what his plan is for dealing with people who count on knowing where "gun free zones" are that handle lots of cash...? Or for protecting his customers and employees? Maybe someone could ask him?

Unless he's got a good one, I sure wouldn't risk my neck going into such a dangerous joint. Or give a dime to such an obnoxious and presumptuous dupe.

  2. Keep in mind, now, he never said HE was unarmed. :-(

I wrote him and encouraged him to get the loudest, flashiest sign possible... because I didn't want to accidentally walk off the street and give him any business whatsoever.

  3. Bill Smith, whose management company Smith Hospitality Group owns or operates several Phoenix-area establishments, said he didn't know any restaurant owner in favor of the bill.

"I just think with all the down-going in the economy now, there's got to be something more important to concentrate on than allowing people to bring guns into restaurants."

Has the man ever heard of Susanna Gratia-Hupp???

I guess he thinks she didn't need a gun in a restaurant that served alcohol, huh?

Bill, you've just lost a whole bunch of perspective customers. And you're an idiot.

  4. Sort of the same way I avoid Taco Mac,which by the way,the one down the road from me in Kennesaw, was saved by a GFL holder and toter. Ironic isn't it.

  5. "McCarthy, who has been in the restaurant industry for 18 years," the article said. Don't you believe him when he says, "We're used to dealing with problem makers," he said. "We get rid of them." Haven't bar owners been doing that for years without the assistance of armed patrons?

  6. Mikeb: How have they been "dealing with problem makers"?

By smiling politely, and saying "pretty please"?

Of course I don't believe him - in fact I don't believe he has even SEEN a "problem maker", let alone faced one.

  7. Sendarius, In 18 years in the bar business you don't think he's seen a trouble maker. What kind of bars do you frequent?

The point is a lot of people think guns and alcohol don't mix. Why do you take that so personally? It really refers to that end of the spectrum of gun owners who are prone to make trouble. Obviously the responsible guys can mix with anything. But, as hard as it is for some of you to admit it, among legal gun owners you've got some who make trouble and even some who go bad. It's about them.

  8. Hey Duke - just a quick question. I notice you are making a big deal about no guns in your bar because they are "unsafe."

Yet you serve alcohol to people who drive to your bar and drive away with no compunction.

Is there a tiny bit of hypocrisy here?

I have written the same note to Sheriff Arapio and suggested that his deputies pay particular attention to the drunks leaving your establishment.

In case you haven't noticed - drunk driving kills and injures many, many more people than do guns in the hands of responsible people - who are the definition of concealed carry permit holders.

But then, you don't make a buck off of that, do you?
