We're the Only Ones Thundering Enough

The neighbourhood beat manager, who has been an officer for the past seven years, is a heathen which means he worships Norse gods, including the hammer-wielding Thor, the one-eyed Odin and Freyr, the god of fertility. [More]

  1. Every "officer" should take EVERY day as a holiday. We don't need no steenkin' LEOs.

  2. Let's look at the dictionary.
Originally, a "pagan" was literally someone who lives out in the country, so that the village temple or church is not within walking distance. The same definition applies to "heathen", a "heath dweller", an inhabitant of a wasteland, forest or uncultivated land. The words equate to describing someone rustic and uncivilized - a country bumpkin. Only later do they mean someone who is not a practicing Jew, Christian, or Muslim. And by "practicing" I mean someone who does not attend services either by choice or because of distance.
Druidism and Wicca did not get entirely stamped out in the British Isles, just as many Native Americans still honor the Great White Father.
Today is Tuesday. Watch out on the next three days - Odin's Day, Thor's Day, and Frigg (Odin's beloved wife) Day - or Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to you.
Frigg (or Fria) also comes from the same word root as "friend" and "free".

  3. David,
I don't get whatever you're getting at with this one. I see that article as something that should have been happening in the USA before England. First Amendment here, official state religion there. When I worked at AT&T we had "floating holidays" which were days you could take off to meet your personal beliefs. It was a good thing.
BTW: some of the Asatru I've met are among the most patriotic Americans. I lead religious services for pagans to observe 9/11, Memorial Day & Veteran's Day. Those have always been well attended.
    Grinning Wolf,
A Patriot, a veteran, a Druid. And maybe a IIIper. We'll know that when the day comes and not before.

  4. Beat manager
    Thor
    Hammer

in conjunction with an "Only One"

seem an ironic enough connection to point out without anyone feeling offended.

If you're looking for politically correct, that ain't here.
