Neither of my "Klunkers" are even good enough to qualify for that program. Anything that would qualify, I wouldn't consider a Klunker. Still, clever idea.

ReplyDeleteI can't believe you bought that Chinese piece of junk, Federale. I picked one up years ago at a gun show in Mo. and shook it, and instantly knew it was shit on a stick. I put it back down and asked the dealer if he felt bad about selling such crap for $1,000 and he got nasty.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand the Norinco 1911A1 is a fine piece of equipment. Sometimes they get it right.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I like my Poly M14. She would shoot 1 1/2" or better groups with good ammo when I got her, used. Once I replaced the trigger parts with USGI, replaced the op rod spring guide with a Fulton Armory match guide, and fitted a GI synthetic stock, she turned into what the gun rags would call a "1/2 MOA rifle" when fed excellent 168-grain Hornady match.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I replaced a few parts... Just like the worshippers at the Church of Springfield do when they want to turn a stock M1A (that cost a lot more than my Poly) into a match rifle.
Note that I didn't say squat about replacing the barrel; that is still pure chrome-lined GI profile Chicom. When that barrel finally wears out I will send the rifle off to be fitted with a US barrel and bolt. (Perhaps I'd better buy those now...)
Don't take my word for it though, ask Mike Vanderboegh about his Polytech M14. As I recall, he named his "China Doll".
Men don't give names like that to guns they aren't fond of.
Even the folks at Fulton Armory who will charge you an arm and a leg to "fix" your Chinese M14, forthrightly praise the Chinese receivers. The reveivers were forged, just like GI, from excellent steel, and are dimensionally identical to a (cue angel choir) TRW receiver.
What would you take for that "piece of junk" Chinese M14?. ;)
