According to several secret State Department cables made public by WikiLeaks, the tanks not only were headed to southern Sudan, but they were the latest installment of several underground arms shipments. [More]Hey, you guys have any chatter on Mexican cartel guns?
The fact that they're reduced to going after this Assange guy on a leaky condom charge pretty much works in his favor with me.

ah, transparency!
ReplyDelete"Arms flowing to both sides"? That's why Christians and African animists are refugees fleeing north and Sudan may split into two countries, with Muslims ruling the south? Because they have arms parity?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so.
Defender, you've got the religious differences backwards. The North is the Muslims, the South Christian and Animist. BTW, my guess on why Kenya was supplying southern forces was they figured it was cheaper than dealing with the refugees they could expect if they stuck with the UN's method of simply telling the aggressors that they are very bad people and should stop attacking right now.
ReplyDeletePresident Omar Hassan al-Bashir of Sudan. The one funding the mujahideen to ethnically cleanse his country of non-Muslims who are also his countrymen and constituents.
ReplyDeleteMakes you think, doesn't it?
Makes me wonder what Obama's cousin who is the Muslim Kenyan prime minister has in mind for those tanks, too.
I think Assange and WikiLeaks have done us a great service. World diplomacy ain't beanbag, but our government employees treat it like parlor games. They need to be called on it.
Thanks, Mr. Gilson. Neglected to refresh my memory. Always glad to be corrected.

ReplyDeleteBe an illegal alien, get caught and threatened with deportation, set up an acquaintance for an ATF sting and win a free green card.
And it only costs taxpayers $5 million per gun seized.
Defender, from the fourth paragraph of the linked article: "By the time the freighter was seized, 67 T-72 tanks had already been delivered to bolster southern Sudan’s armed forces against the government in Khartoum, an international pariah for its human rights abuses in Darfur." The weapons were supplied to the forces OPPOSING al-Bashir and his mujahideen. Note that while not involved, the Bush administration knew about the shipments and looked the other way. When Obama learned about them he threatened sanctions against everyone involved.
