Last month El Paso, a sprawling southwest Texas city of 700,000 residents, was named the safest city of its size in the United States for the first time, and it is on track to close out 2010 with just five murders.Damned lax American gun laws...
But just over the shallow concrete trench of the Rio Grande in Ciudad Juarez, more than 3,000 people have been tortured, shot and blasted to death in gang warfare this year, clinching its grim reputation as the world's most dangerous city. [More]

"More than 30,000 people have been slaughtered across Mexico since President Felipe Calderon took office four years ago and vowed to crush the powerful cartels, even as Mexico's justice system came under fire for shoddy police work, corruption in the courts and the ease of jailbreaks."
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that's MUCH better.
The law of supply and demand can't be repealed, any more than the law of gravity.
A certain level of crime and violence is necessary for people to accept the theft of more of their liberty. Government used to be happy with the minimum required. Now they're impatient and going for the whole enchilada.
From what son has told me, while there may not be many murders in El Paso the level of theft and vandalism committed mostly by people coming across the border to 'shop' is pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteThis is very misleading as most media stories.I worked there for five weeks last fall and during that time. A seventeen y/o girl was abdusted from the local high schhol and found three days later in Juarez brutalized dead. Also a local newscasters brother was abducted and found a few days later dead in Juarez. So although they may have not occured in EL Paso a reasonable man would consider it part of El Paso's crime statistics. I repeat that this was just during five weeks I was there and woman was shot in the chest and robbed over %5.00 worth of quarters in the hotel laundry room by an illegal alien. Then an illegal tried robbing a colleague and he had a concealed carry license and shot and killed the illegal. The police came and investigated and told him to go on to bed and that would be the end of it. Persoanl friend of mine had his motorcycle stolen on enight and the police filed a report and told him that would be the end of it because in less than 30 minutes after it waqs stolen it was in Mexico. El Paso is not a safe city it is becoming a Ghost Town because people are leaving it at an amazing rate just google it and see for yourself. It is Poophole town with all of the illegals there and none of them can drive with any manners.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how easily how these abductees and stolen goods pass through Mexican Customs and Immigration at the border crossing? Must be because of NAFTA!
