We're the Only Ones Ensuring Incompetence Enough

The Chicago Police Department is seriously considering scrapping the police entrance exam, sources tell Fran Spielman.

Dropping the exam would bolster minority hiring and avert legal battles, according to one source, while others confirm that the exam could be scrapped to open the process to as many people as possible. [More]
So they won't actually have to understand that Constitution they're required to swear an oath to support? And these boobs are going to tell us what the law is?

So much for the argument that they're the professionals. Wonder how the Brady's are going to lie their way around this?

Why not just put up a "Thugs for Hire--Inquire Within" sign? Oh, right--because they couldn't read it.

Not just "Only Ones"--Chicago "Only Ones".

Forget it Jake, it's Chi-Town.

Has everybody had just about enough of this yet?

We're the Only Ones "What Goes into 13 Twice?" Enough

Ward is charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual battery for a victim under 13, two counts of attempted aggravated sexual battery for a victim under 13, two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and two counts of sexual battery. [More]
Actually, more than twice, huh? I just don't like to let a good Roman Polanski joke go to waste.

Still, as with all related "Only Ones" tales, I note my Eternal Question remains unanswered...

We're the Only Ones Planning a Visit Enough

A former Philadelphia police officer pleaded guilty to planning the violent home invasion robbery of a drug dealer.

Alhinde Weems, 34, faces a minimum of 15 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to distributing crack cocaine and plotting to use his badge and gun as part of the robbery. [More]
Why is it we wouldn't automatically act in defense against a break-in--regardless of who was smashing in our door? Or perhaps especially if it was an "Only One"...?

Book 'em, Danno

Kent McManigal has written a children's book and a liberty primer.

He asks that we all go out and buy multiple copies so he can live in the lifestyle he'd like to get accustomed to.

Believe it or not, only a few of us in the liberty movement can afford caviar on our yachts to feed all those supermodels. Every once in a while a fresh change of pine needles under the buffalo skin really helps improve the ol' morale--not to mention the homey ambiance of our yurts. And an occasional meal is pretty nice, too.

So if you're in the market to discuss liberty with kids or with yourself, why not do something voluntary and mutually profitable?

Nothing Succeeds Like Success

By definition, terrorism succeeds by making us feel powerless. [More]
Now substitute the word "government" for "terrorism."

And with each successive erosion of Liberty in the name of security, they succeed even more.

What was it the Founders considered "necessary to the security of a free State" again?

Never mind--I'm sure it's outdated...

Besides, I've already defined the obvious solution to air travel security.

Now take off your shoes and step into the Wienertron.

"Youth for Human Rights International"...

...sounds so much warmer and fuzzier than the "Young Communist League."

Gosh, how generous of the UN to define my rights for me.

Thing is, as I've observed before:
As for "law-abiding firearms owners," we must not forget that the UN recognizes no inalienable rights. Its "Universal Declaration of Human Rights" reads like a Utopian's wish list until you get to Article 29:

"(2) In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law. . . [and] (3) These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations."

In other words, the law is what the UN or any of its despotic member regimes say it is--as is your "law-abiding" status.

And, of course, there is no declaration that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. The UN Panel of Governmental Experts on Small Arms report proclaims, "All States should determine in their national laws and regulations which arms are permitted for civilian possession and the conditions under which they can be used."

So if the answer is "none" and "never," your job is to obey.
I was, unfortunately, unsuccessful in persuading the tactical geniuses responsible for such fantastic gun rights "victories" in California. Ah well, I always wanted to have an "ilk" I could get to help me promote my "almost Islamist-like exclusionary world-view."

They Shoot Colonels, Don't They?

I call your attention to some links:

When to Shoot the Colonels

"When to Shoot the Colonels": A West Pointer's ad seriatim commentary upon Baugh's essay.

Reprise on 'When to Shoot The Colonels'

It's important to read them in order.

My thoughts: Tom Baugh sent me a copy of his book. Now that the holidays are over, I can give it the attention it needs (along with Dave Kopel's newest book and the Neal Knox anthology, which I also received shortly before Christmas).

Baugh is correct when he tells us the military "exists to back our national will with force." I also think in this case, his assessment that"oath keepers...will be in in an impossible situation" does not consider all factors. It does not account for the uncertainty that made troops ultimately not mow down crowds when the Shah was deposed. It does not account for a Romanian Christmas of days gone by that ended with a tyrant bleeding in the dirt, killed by troops who once enforced his will.

The only thing we know for sure is none of us can predict the future. That said, we do have an ability to affect probabilities. I'd say the largest part of whether or not American soldiers would fire on American citizens--and whether Oath Keepers can play a key part in defusing that potential-- depends on us and what we do.

This Day in History: January 6

What a date, My Dear Heart, and what a country from which to write in the month of January! It is in a camp in the middle of woods; it is fifteen hundred leagues from you that I find myself buried in midwinter. Not too long ago, we were separated from the enemy by a small river; now we are seven leagues away from them and it is here that the American army will spend the winter in small barracks hardly more cheerful than a jail. I do not know if the general … will decide to visit our new abode; should he, we would show him around. The bearer of this letter will describe to you the pleasant place which I seem to prefer to being with you, with all my friends and amidst all possible pleasures. [More]
