GRE Round Up for Mar. 19

There's some good stuff being turned out. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Howard Nemerov/Austin:
The Brady Campaign to Promote Violence?

John Longenecker/Los Angeles:
Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
Missouri closer to legal self-defense for 21-year-olds

Go. Read. And please share the links.
You're doing that, right?

We're the Only Ones "Book 'em, Danno" Enough

Police say Allison Moore has been indicted with seven counts of promoting a dangerous drug, seven counts of evidence tampering, seven counts of forgery, as well as attempted theft and fixing tickets. [More]
No doubt just one of those few bad pineapples...

A Modest Proposal

After disbanding their police department, Pewaukee officials are trying to find out why 58,000 rounds of ammunition were left and what they should do with it. [More]
I don't suppose you guys have any of those "who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people" types who could put it to good use...?

I know, I know. I can't claim that as my original idea.

We're the Only...BLAM!

A deputy accidentally shot another deputy during a gunfire training exercise Thursday... [More]
What does "Flo" say in that Progressive Insurance commercial?
Happens to me all the time.

Why, Oh Why?

Police say they can't explain why Singh, 35, was shot in the abdomen early Wednesday even after complying with the gunman's instructions to hand over his register's cash in a bag.

"He didn't put up a struggle at all," said homicide Detective Jeff Cowdrey. "He did what he was supposed to do and got shot for it." [More]

Indeed. As the King of Siam would say, "Is a Puzzlement."

Perhaps someone in Toledo could explain it to us...?

Down for the Count?

Two scholars say in a new research paper that despite earlier denials, the Census Bureau was deeply involved in the roundup and internment of Japanese Americans at the onset of U.S. entry into World War II. [More]
Just yesterday I got the idea for either a book or a screenplay. Here's the gist of it: it's an alternate history, along the lines of MacKinlay Kantor's "If the South Had Won the Civil War."

In my scenario, WWII is going badly for the Allies. America is beginning to experience the inability to feed its own population. It has no resources to send to feed or otherwise care for the Japanese-American internment camp prisoners, and will not just turn them loose back into the general population.

What "solutions" do we think could have developed under those circumstances?

Eh, another fantasy I'll probably never have time to give a second look to...I don't see where anyone else has developed this idea though--correct me if I'm wrong on that.

We're the Only Ones Situation Normal, All F***** Up Enough

Computer snafu is behind at least 50 'raids' on Brooklyn couple's home [More]
I'm just thinking how fortunate it is no one lifted a finger any of those times.

I'm also wondering if they can get a restraining order...don't those usually result in gun possession prohibitions?

An Economic Stimulus Proposal

What's good for the glaziers is good for the country? [Read]

Trend Setters?

Or making us all look bad, as some would have you believe?

I side with WRSA.

Toledo Blade Warns Against Self-Defense

You get that, right? The editors of The Toledo Blade recommend fear-driven inaction against and compliance with evil. Because there are no 100% guarantees and something could go wrong. In the future.

So instead they endorse paralyzed, deer-in-the-headlights cowardice.

No wonder they're against guns. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at some despicable excuses of human beings. Naturally, they're "Authorized Journalists."

This Day in History: March 19

March 19 was D (for drill) day. The baron arose at 3:00 a.m. and spent some time trying to memorize the English words for the first lesson. On Valley Forge’s grand parade, his 100 men, carefully selected from all 14 brigades, were waiting for him, along with the 14 brigade inspectors. Steuben ordered a dozen men to form a squad and began with a fundamental: how a soldier stood and carried himself. Here are the exact words from Steuben’s manual: “He is to stand straight and firm upon his legs, with his head turned to the right so far as to bring his left eye over the waistcoat buttons; the heels two inches apart; the toes turned out; the belly drawn in a little, but without constraint; the breast a little projected; the shoulders square to the front and kept back; and the hands hanging down the sides, close to the thighs.” [More]
