"No weapon or other instrument intended for use as a weapon may be carried in or on any facility or conveyance, except for law enforcement personnel." [More]With no cops to be found and "No Guns" dictated by law, MetroLink’s “Holiday Party” could just as easily turn into the kind of blowout bash you wouldn’t want to attend.
Do folks carrying, really avoid the MetroLink, theaters, and other such places. Don't you guys carry concealed anyway?
ReplyDeleteWhat percent of the population is carrying?
What would it take to prevent such violence as suggested here?
1 in 10 carrying? 1 in 5? And surely there are places where this exists, that we can verify that it keeps the violence down?
But the news of someone stopping violence is rare, typically just someone protecting their residence.
Just curious. Since this keeps being suggested as a cure.

ReplyDeleteDoes Anonymous believe everything he reads in the news or hears there? Does Anonymous believe the "news" covers all the news or like many of US have come to learn, merely selected bits and pieces journalists are apt to cover to perpetuate a mindset or further a narrative?
ReplyDeleteIf folks are going to a major sporting event via public transportation then carrying is problematic setting aside misdemeanor penalties if caught because these sporting arenas are Gun Free Zones enforced by metal detectors.
No one knows who or how many are carrying at posted gun free zones. Maybe one ought to do a poll. What we do know is bad guys will do or use whatever resource is at hand to ply their trade upon their neighbors in these GFZ's.
Yes, we avoid such places. Yes, we carry concealed, and yes, no one would know, but as the aphorism goes, the measure of a person’s character is determined by what he does even when no one else would be the wiser. I would rather reward establishments (like Longhorn Steakhouse) that honor my right to self-defense and boycott their competitors (like Outback) who do not. Furthermore, I carry cards to leave with the manager explaining precisely why he got my business. (http://www.azcdl.org/ThanksFrontBusCardTemplate1b.pdf)
ReplyDeleteAnd just because “the news of” something is rare doesn’t imply that the something itself is rare. That’s like the administration boasting that “apprehensions” of illegal border-crossers “are down,” even though crossings themselves are up. It has nothing to do with what is happening, only with what some third party with an agenda thinks is important you know.
David & All, Thanks for your comments to my questions.
ReplyDeleteI meant them honestly. I sometimes wonder of the effect of concealed carry on violence of the type mentioned here. Simply numbers of people and the good intentions of them to intervene in any way, may be as important.
But clearly every episode of a Good Samaritan With Weapon clears the space a bit more for the law abiding.
Deep thanks to all of those here, who are among such Good Samaritans.
Active shooters (presumably willing to die) are quite a different thing, as only one ready to fulfill their wish will be sufficient.
Thanks to those of you, again, who are ready for this.
I will try to be, as well.
