Code of Conduct

Well this rule sheet posted inside hardly cuts it.

"No guns," naturally. [More]

As suspected.

Christensen sounds like a real corporate tool. Think he'd sign a guarantee?

Guess that means they'll have to put up signs.

  1. I don't know about other states but that piece of paper is not legally binding and no penalty can accrue to violating Rolling Oaks Mall's "Code of Conduct". The video from the CBS affiliate here showed some sort of sign which read as follows:
    -NOTICE-
It is unlawful for a person to carry a weapon on this premises unless the weapon is a handgun and the person is licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 441, Texas Government Code

For a sign of that sort to be legally binding, it must conform EXACTLY (wording, letter size, bilingual, the works) to the wording etc. in the Texas Code. Try as I might, I cannot find the wording on the sign shown in that video anywhere. I've seen the 30.06 and 30.07 sign language but nowhere do I find that sign.

PLUS the sign in the video says that carrying a handgun is unlawful unless "the person is licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 441, Texas Government Code" - which both the Good Sam and the Shooter are/were. If the owners want to make the place a gun free zone they MUST post the appropriate signage AT EVERY ENTRANCE even to the stores there that have their own doors to the outside. Rolling Oaks has more than one entrance on more than one level. Additionally, IMS (I don't shop there. It's 20 miles from my house and, since it is up in yuppy country, it is too expensive.) there are at least two stores (Sears and Dillards) which have their own entrances. If the sign in the video is on the doors near the Jeweler's, it is on the opposite side of the mall from the doors your reader sent a photo of.

There isn't ANYTHING in ANY store that I need badly enough to voluntarily disarm for the privilege of shopping there. On a trip once I pulled up to a Stop-n-Rob needing badly to hit the head. The 30.06 and 30.07 signs were duly posted. I got back in my car and drove another half hour to make my head call, buy a soda and a snack and pay 50 bucks for a fill up.
