Cover Story

The students-turned-activists who survived a mass shooting at their Florida high school last month are featured on the glossy cover of Time magazine. [More]
No surprise there.
The cover was revealed two days before the students and their allies rally in Washington for the March for Our Lives, a demonstration organized by ... the gun control organization Everytown for Gun Safety.
And supported by these guys and these guys...

  1. For all the good it will do, I sent the following letter to the local news affiliates in my area.

    Subj: Gun Violence

The Parkland, Florida incident is tragic, made worse by the fact that an armed resource officer cowered outside the building rather than confront the sick individual who perpetrated the violence. Notice I said “individual”, and not “gun”? There are over 300 million guns in the United States that will NEVER jump off the table and start shooting people all by themselves. The media is complicit in perpetuating the misconception that an inanimate object is responsible. The news anchor never says “knife violence” or “fist violence”, but more people are killed in the U.S. every year by hands and fists than are killed with a rifle of any kind. KY3 is not the only news agency misleading in their coverage. I wish it were as simple as changing the channel, but you all (media in general) need a lesson in news reporting, and not propaganda! Emotion is not the determining factor for good policy decisions, and children are generally not the best sources of informed opinion regarding matters of national importance. The Constitution and Amendments are the supreme law of the land and not subject to the emotions of some high school kids. Suggesting that guns should be outlawed because 18th century law couldn’t foresee 21st century firearms is equal to saying the government should determine what you’re allowed to say on the nightly broadcast because TV wasn’t invented when the 1st Amendment was written. It is important to note that your rights are inherent in your being, not a grant or permission from the government. Your rights pre-existed the Constitution, and are merely codified in the Amendments. Government indoctrination centers, also called schools fail to teach history, and as we all know, those who fail to learn from past mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

Know that those calling for more gun control are going to be met with resistance, and non-compliance. Here are some examples: Connecticut passed legislation following Sandy Hook requiring owners of modern sporting rifles to register or turn them in. Less than fifteen percent of the estimated number of gun owners complied making immediate felons of about 150,000 people just in Connecticut. The City of Denver just recently made possession of a bump stock a felony. Not one person turned in their accessory. New York passed the SAFE Act, draconian rules on magazine capacities, and registration of modern sporting rifles. Again, less than fifteen percent of the estimated gun owners filled out the paperwork. We’re done being made the scape goat! We’re done accepting new gun control that will never prevent EVEN ONE shooting! We’re done giving up our rights and freedoms to make those who would disarm us feel safe. How about you give fair and honest coverage to both sides of the argument? Or better yet, realize that the 2nd Amendment is what gives teeth to the 1st. You would be nothing more than a mouth piece for the government if there was no way to protect your life and liberty. "When government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny." – Thomas Jefferson.

  2. Spurious Jefferson quote, a longtime pet peeve of mine.

  3. Well excuse me for living! Yes, it's a pet peeve of mine too, and I have read the Philip Mulivor book, "Proclaiming Liberty", What patriots and heroes really said . . .

I'm not perfect. It came up on the Montecello site, and in my haste did not see the "spurious quotes" label. Perhaps the morons at the TV station will miss the error, or more likely refuse to read it anyway.

"What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms . . . the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." - Thomas Jefferson

    Thank you.
