With many jurisdictions being "felony happy" these days, I would say it depends on the felony.
I agree with an opinion from Associate Justice Barrett who wrote that non violent felons should not be deprived of their RKBA.
OTOH, I agree with the Chinese approach in cases where a violent felon has multiple violent felonies on his/her record. A dose of 9mm to the back of the head & shove the corpse in the river.
First time offenders might warrant the chance to straighten their lives out under the guidance of a custodian. But custodians are expensive. They should be reserved for those cases where they might achieve some good. Career violent criminals should be dealt with swiftly, surely, and terminally.
It isn't like they're an endangered species or anything like that.
