Repeal the Second Amendment

NOTE: The article I am responding to is actually about a year old, but I didn't see it then and think it merits comment.
Fifteen unambiguous words are all that would be required to quell the American-as-apple-pie cycle of gun violence that has now tearfully enshrined Virginia Tech in the record book of mass murder. Here are the 15 words that would deliver a mortal wound to our bang-bang culture of death: "The second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed."

Thanks, Walter.

"Men" like you remove the need to debate those who ridicule gun owners for being paranoid over "slippery slopes."

You get the same answer I gave Sallie Tisdale (another Salon subversive).

And the same one Mike Vanderboegh gave "Homer Simpson's Dumber Brother."

Bring it on, Walter.

Oh, but I forget--you're merely the cheerleader. You expect men who don't wear these to do your fighting and dying for you.

Sucks to be you, Walter--and you obviously know it. Why else would you demand the state render better men than you equally unmanly?

  1. As contemptible as Walter is, he at least is honest enough to acknowledge that the Second Amendment means what it says. Granted, he also seems to think that this preexisting right will disappear as soon as its Constitutional protection does, but he's clearly not alone in that, even among supposed "gun rights activists."

Getting the enemy to abandon the "Second Amendment protects the right of the National Guard to be armed" argument is, to my way of thinking, a victory in itself.

  2. Sure thing, hop to it. All it takes is two thirds of both houses of Congress, then thirty-eight state legislatures.

When that's done, they'll still have to Come and Take Them.

  3. I think that none of the original amendments can be removed, since they were required to get ratification of the constitution.
