GRE Round Up for May 12

There's some good stuff being turned out by the Gun Rights Examiners. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Anthony Bouchard/Cheyenne:
Gun control is synonymous with citizen control

Sheridan Wyoming hiring police from out of state, a threat to liberty

Dan Bidstrup/Denver:
New (old) Colorado State University gun policy spreads

Dave Workman/Seattle:
NRA convenes annual members meeting this weekend in Charlotte, N.C.

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
Money no object for Mexican drug cartels shopping for guns

Go. Read. And please share these links.

You're doing that, right?

Down for the Count Redux

Woman raped by census worker [Read]
Is "number of victims in residence" one of the questions?

One more report and we'll officially have a spate.

One post yesterday, another today--at this the rate, I'm going to have to create a new archive category...

Third Time's a Charm

Rockland Marylou’s robbed; third time local chain hit in six months [More]
Ah, a spate of coffee shop robberies.

And evidently the assailant had one o' them there pro-stab knives.

Funny...I haven't heard of any similar incidents happening here...at least while our guys were around...

Say, you don't suppose predators prefer easy victims, do you...? If so, somebody'd better tell these guys. At the rate they're raking it in, they ought to be able to buy a latte for the whole Board of Directors in another couple weeks--well, as long as they stick with "tall" and nobody orders a blueberry streusel...

We're the Only Ones Fabricating Enough

The sergeant, Robert Ralston, claimed that he approached a man on the railroad tracks. The man allegedly pulled out a gun and fired, striking Ralston in the shoulder before fleeing the scene.

Nice story, right? Well, Ralston made up the whole thing. [More]
Gee, if he wanted people to think he was a hero, couldn't he have just reported a smoking car or something...?

We're the Only Ones Uncooperative Enough

Only hours after Cook County sheriff's officials agreed to join an investigation into the theft of nearly two dozen weapons belonging to south suburban Harvey police, they pulled out. The sheriff's department had joined on the sole condition that its investigation be independent of that of Harvey police, a sheriff's spokesman said, but Harvey officials weren't cooperating. [More]
And that surprises us... why?

Seriously.

Why?

Anybody care to guess how a non-Harvey "Only One" would be leaned on by Cook County enforcers under similar circumstances?

Heroes

Let me get this straight: They reported a smoking car to a cop and for that we cheapen the term "hero"? That rates calls from the president and an impassioned paean to not forget being inclusive of Muslims from CNN? [Read]

Does anybody know anybody who would not do the same--and not feel like it was any big deal? Did I miss the part where one of the heroes ripped open the car door, dragged someone out of the flames at the risk of their own life, and then tossed the bomb into the harbor (being mindful not to endanger the nuns and ducks)?

I guess for a culture that plants Teddy Kennedy at Arlington, this is about the level of heroics we can expect. Besides, if we want to see real heroes, there's always TV and the movies...no?

Toy Story

Mike H share his toys nicely with us.

Cool toys, like these and these...

And...hey, wait a minute, if these are toys, what's the deal...?

Dealing With It

We can do it this way...

Or this way....

Satisfied Rapex customer Andrew Dys practically drips with cloying empathy.

Yeah, the gun did it.

What an exploitative, blood-dancing sob-sister.

As Seen on TV!

There are people in this country who suffer from knife-o-phobia. You know who you are, and it’s time to get therapy. A knife is straight, sharp, and elegant. It’s quick to use and easy to clean. For chopping and slicing, it cannot be improved on. [More]
What, you mean anti-stab knives won't help?

Thing is, every one of the items reviewed could be used as an "assault weapon"...

[Vie Ed M]

More Pressing Items

Even if there were any need for this measure -- which there is not -- Ohio has far more pressing items on its agenda, starting with 11 percent unemployment. [More]
Speaking of unemployment as a "more pressing item," and my sense of things based on living in the region says the Plain Dealer has their numbers way low, how they figure driving armed citizens away from restaurants will help the employment situation is one of those mysteries of gungrabber "logic."

It goes right along with teeing off a large segment of the readership/market as your paper "continues to bleed." Yet their anti-defense fanaticism compels them to keep pressing this item...

At least that shows us the quality of their judgment in re self preservation.

Nothing like those dying from their own poor choices demanding we listen to them for pointers on how to live...

"Authorized Journalists"...

Court: Hutaree to Stay Jailed for Now

What the court decides to do after arguments from both sides are heard will certainly be interesting, and possibly indicative of how compelling the government's case really is. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column notes some deadlines, after which we should learn more.

This Day in History: May 12

Many of these officers had now overcome their indignation and were ready to sign their allegiance to the new nation. Washington hoped others would follow the New Jersey example. The process began on May 12, 1778. [More]
