Don't Have a Cow

SB 1246 by Sen. Jim Norman, R-Tampa, would make it a first-degree felony to photograph a farm without first obtaining written permission from the owner.[More]
Jeez, that could get you up to 30 years.  And make you a prohibited person.

Nice digs, Jim.  With any luck, maybe we'll be able to stop by the side of the road and take pictures of the bulls supervising you on the work farm, and the prohibited person will be you.

To Be or Not to Be?

John Richardson says HR 822 looks like "a pretty good bill."

Dan Gifford forwarded an email that says not so fast:
If You Want to Follow my Lead…: A few list members shared with me their comments to congressmen and the NRA-ILA regarding HR 822. These are the comments I sent to my representative, Paul Gosar, by means of GOA’s contact option at http://capwiz.com/gunowners/dbq/officials/:
I am a dedicated and long-term activist for the restoration of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Still, I must ask that you vote "no" on HR 822, the Stearns-Shuler bill to mandate nationwide recognition of state carry permits. Laudable as the goal sounds, the concept is a Trojan horse.

Sen. Feinstein has already announced her intent to establish federal standards for the issuance of concealed-carry permits at state level, to include a California-style requirement for proof of need. Costly medical and psychological testing, along with police-level "qualification" courses could also be included.

While none of this is in the current bill, making the carry of firearms a federal matter creates a ready vehicle for amendment when the political pendulum swings back to the left. The nation's experience with the 55 mph speed limit showed how easily the federal government can obtain compliance with federal standards simply by threatening to withhold federal funds.
I suppose now advocates for both viewpoints are going to hash this out on blogs and in forums...

Me, I've always been kinda partial to Constitutional carry...

We're the Only Ones Witnessed To Enough

"The inclination might be to try to stop it. We don't want people to do that. We want store employees to be witnesses to shoplifting, not victims of assault," says Skoogman. [More]
So should we assume that Skoogman & Co. wouldn't try to stop it either, or just that they think they're the "Only Ones" qualified to try, because, chances are, whatever a mob wanted to do to you would be fait accompli by the time they got there and swilled down some free coffee while they took down their report?

Seems to me like one of those "30 round clips" we're hearing so much about lately might just persuade a mob to leave quietly and not assault anyone.

We're the Only Ones Setting the Bar High Enough

Recently, here in the state of Washington, King County prosecutors announced that they would not charge Seattle Police Officer Ian Birk for the shooting death of Native American woodcarver John T. Williams despite a police firearms review board deciding that the shooting was unjustified. In this case, prosecutors cited Washington State law which they say sets such a high bar against prosecuting police officers in such cases that they could not charge Birk even though his actions appeared negligent at best. [More]
If we don't like it, we are told, we can always change the law.

I wonder who could possibly be against such a change?  Aside from all the usual suspects.

And, of course, it would still leave those mourning victims killed before any change SOL as far as any legal recourse goes.

So much for securing the blessings of Liberty...

This Day in History: February 28

Ten days after the event, on February 28, 1779, General Henry Knox wrote a letter to his brother William describing the Grand Alliance Ball: "We had above seventy ladies, all of the first ton in the State, and between three and four hundred Gentlemen. We danced all night--an elegant room, the illuminating fireworks were more than pretty." The entertainment was given by the artillery corps, which erected a temple, or frame, of 13 Corinthian arches, about 100 feet in length and proportionally high, each arch containing an illuminated painting emblematic of the Revolution. Revival

There was another story I've touched on before, and I've been receiving updates on it, but "Project Gunwalker" has kept me so dang busy I have not had time to do anything with it.

On February 23, 1779 Clark and his group were within three miles of the Fort at Vincennes. They were able to take a British prisoner who told them everything they needed to know. Clark knew he was outnumbered, so he devised a plan to make it seem that there were a lot more men than forty-seven storming the Fort. Vincennes sat on the top of a mountain. He had his men march around in a circle around the fort. The British and the Indians thought there were thousands of soldiers outside. The Indians ran for their safety. That left about 150 British soldiers inside the fort. [More]

Remember, that's not 12 percent of the tens of thousands of weapons recovered - it's only 12 percent of the weapons recovered that were traceable. It's nowhere near the 12 percent figure that has been misquoted and used as evidence of the United State's "horrific" problem of illegal gun sales. [More]
Who is using a paltry "12" to misrepresent things?

Try "80."

Or "90."

Hell, try "95 to 100."

When the antis lie, they lie big.  It's what they do.

What have they got to lose?

They figure most people won't know any better, and the media they're BSing will either be too ignorant to know the difference or else glad to have something that helps advance their own agenda.

Deportation raises questions for Grassley gun investigation

That is curious.  Especially in the absence of information about who decided the Mexican nationals are not accessories (or even material witnesses), and how that was determined. After all, whether they were complicit to the shooting or not, they were illegally present at the scene of a crime in which a law enforcement officer was killed.

No?  [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report wonders if everybody who needs to has had a chance to ask questions.  Ain't it something that we have to question that?

This Day in History: February 18

One of the most noted events in Pluckemin (Washington spelled it Pluckamin) was The Grand Alliance Ball of 1779 in Pluckemin.(Sometimes spelled Pluckamin) General Washington and 400 others attended the celebration held on the grounds of the Boylan House in 1779. The ball celebrated the first anniversary of the alliance with France, which ended in victory for the allies at Yorktown. The ball was attended by more than 400 dignitaries. [More]

I was hoping to do a Gun Rights Examiner column on this, but Project Gunwalker demands have me so wrapped around the axle I doubt I'll have the time--so just wanted to help get this link circulating before GOSA's  email gets lost in the deluge...

"Real Journalism"

The decline of "real journalism" justifies federal involvement, according to Copps[More]

Not the stuff Mike and I have been doing.

The stuff the people who won't report on it are doing.

So by "federal involvement," they must mean some kind of approval, not some kind of exposure.

You know, Authorized Journalism.

It's the only kind that real.

A conspiracy of silence in ATF inquiry? Where are Murray, Cantwell?

As it is, Grassley seems to be out there all by himself, trying to uncover the truth. He deserves some company from fellow members of the U.S. Senate... [More]
Dave Workman's latest.  And yes, Grassley does.

I trust the regulars here are taking the initiative to get him some of that company he--and the men who put their necks on the block--deserve?

Grassley to Holder: ATF refused to answer specific questions in briefing

This demonstrates the senator is serious about this and will not tolerate willful noncompliance. It also marks a serious miscalculation on the part of ATF bureaucrats and their Department of Justice handlers, and has produced what, for them, is no doubt the unintended consequence of steeling Grassley's resolve to pursue his investigation over all attempts to refuse cooperation. [More]
This evening's Gun Rights Examiner column notes the stakes just got higher. It also notes you're not getting this news from any "mainstream" networks or newspapers--which is why I keep on harping for regular readers to share these links.

Too Much, The Magic Bus

The Criminal Mayors have started a Treason on Wheels cross-country tour.  George Stephanopoulos does a great job being impartial instead of just a sympathetic sob-sister tool for Furious Mike, don't you think? [Read and watch]

You don't?

And OK, it's a truck, not a bus.  But it's still magic.  Because there's certainly nothing grounded in reality about it.

Huh--I see they're posting Tweets and they're now in Newark. Does this mean they won't announce their destination and dates in advance, so maybe people can greet them? Armed and openly carrying, where feasible?

And Huh again--all the comments so far appear to be solidly in the "disarm us for our own good" camp, almost as if they primed the pump or something. Let's just see if they entertain reasoned discourse:

On ICE

To all who have sent me links to various accounts, yes, I know about this.

And no, I think it's premature to conclude "walked" guns must have been involved.

But I do think it should be determined.

Banging Pots and Pans

That's a description I use for the process we're going through to get the "Project Gunwalker" story noticed in the absence of "Authorized Journalist" interest.  Mike even tells us there's a name for that when other people join us: Cacerolazo!
