We're the Only Ones Who Hate Long Goodbyes Enough

A border policeman committed suicide Tuesday afternoon in the middle of a farewell ceremony in honor of French President Nicolas Sarkozy at Ben Gurion International Airport.

And naturellement:

Initially, the prime minister's security personnel drew their handguns and rushed Olmert and Peres to bullet-proof cars, while Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy were rushed to the French president's plane.

Here's why I say "naturellement":

I would like to say one thing, in what is my conception of the Republic, security is the responsibility of the State, I am against militias, I am against the private ownership of firearms, and I’m trying to make you think about that. If you are assaulted by an armed burglar, he’ll use his weapon more effectively than you anyway so you’re risking your life. If the criminal is not armed and you are and you shoot, your life will be ruined, because killing someone over a theft is not in line with the republican values that are mine. The private ownership of firearms is dangerous. I understand your exasperation for having been burglarized two times, I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home.

As a caveat, I'm no fan of open carry. I've done it in wilderness areas, but prefer carrying concealed for a number of tactical reasons. Still, I see the value of open carry for normalizing people's reactions, and respect gun owners who make that choice. I will absolutely do what I can to stop them being harassed--just because some sheep and wolves can't stand the sight of free men and women going about their lives in confidence.

A police force has suspended some firearms training after the death of an officer during an exercise.

I dunno blokes--as long as you're not shooting each other, I'd say a little more practice might just be called for.

The next thing the gun owner knew he is in a "felony stop" mode. He was asked to walk backwards towards the officers, who then disarmed and handcuffed him.

While trying to unloaded his gun, THEY DROPPED IT ONTO THE ROAD!

And even after the magistrate proved to them how ignorant they were on all counts, the vengeful dicks still gave the citizen a hard time getting his gun back, and pressed the stop sign charge to save face.

It does make me wonder how dead wrong an "Only Ones" must be, how authority-exceeding or outright illegal his conduct, before physical resistance is warranted.

We're the Only Ones Determining Your Need to Live Enough

I think you're wrong there, Chief. I think most people--at least those in your neck of the woods--have effectively surrendered to the message from the masters on this and would agree with you.

Too bad. It forced me every day when I was in California to make a choice I knew carried life-shattering risks. That's a hell of a thing to do to a man with a family, but it certainly helped strengthen my resolve.

We're the Only Ones Assuming Enough

A $25 million claim has been filed against the city of Inglewood on behalf of the victims of a fatal police shooting last month in which officers fired into a car, striking three unarmed men.

No guns were found in the car and police said there was no evidence linking the three men to the initial shots fired.

And we don't know the names of the "Only Ones" involved why?

Per an earlier report:

Although California courts have ruled that the names of officers involved in shootings should be publicly released, the Inglewood Police Department refused requests to release their identities.

Why aren't they facing murder and armed assault charges, as you or I would be if we fired into their car under the belief that they were violent armed criminals? And why exactly would we be wrong for making that assumption?

The boobs fired through their own windshield. Good grief.

And the $25 million, or whatever gets settled for? Hey, it won't come out of anybody's pockets but the productive sector's.

Inglewood has always reminded me of Obi-Wan Kenobi's description of Mos Eisley, "a wretched hive of scum and villainy." And the parts outside City Hall and the PD are just as bad.
