A Journey of a Thousand Miles...

...starts this morning with a single step.  Meaning I won't be posting for a week, or moderating comments, which I've shut off, or responding to emails/tips, messages and tweets, Please hold off on those, as any received in my absence will probably go unanswered.

As usual, things have been coming across the transom I'm itching to field, including two offers for "exclusives." I just won't have time to even look at those until I return, so when I do they may be old news.

I also have four articles out awaiting publication and can't say what days they'll be posted. They'll be under the following links when they are:
  • AmmoLand: New Jersey's "name and shame" efforts and "unique" gun-grabber suicide tools
  • Firearms News: The Swiss EU disarmament referendum and ATF's swamp director nominee
Since I won't be here to promote them I'd appreciate help spreading the word. Also, you may find earlier articles you haven't seen, so feel free to give any you find worthwhile a boost.

That's it and now I've still got some tasks to complete before I head out, first and foremost turning feral sons Uday and Qusay's shock collars up to "Max" to keep them from escaping in my absence.

See ya on the other side.

I'm sorry, but it does matter.

I'm also sorry GOA seems determined to blow an opportunity. More and more NRA members are becoming justifiably disgruntled and could be given compelling reasons to believe crossover support will be more smartly managed. Asking them to waste their time is a non-starter.

In Memoriam

Nick E. Morrison, Service # 35911900, Rank Private First Class, U.S. Army, Unit: 157th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, Entered Service From Ohio. Date of Death June 2, 1944. Buried Plot B Row 9 Grave 31, Sicily-Rome American Cemetery
Many Americans have the day off. They’re looking forward to barbecues and picnics, parades and games. Pursuit of happiness is good, albeit the Republic’s survival would be better served were Liberty pursued as vigorously as comforts and pleasures.

One way to connect with personal purpose is to reflect on those who came before us and endured great hardships and sacrifices, to bequeath to us, their heirs, a system of principles and laws designed to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” Here are some men I will be reflecting on today:

My uncle Nick Morrison did not make it back from WWII. He was only 19 and gave “the last full measure of devotion,” sacrificing life, love and family. Think about that. I cannot imagine the agony my grandparents had to endure over the loss of their only son. Over 50 years later, a friend visited the Sicily-Rome Memorial Cemetery where he was laid to rest and brought back a photograph of his grave site which I gave to my mother. She still wept at the loss of her kid brother.

My uncle George Codrea was a Marine on Guadalcanal and also at Chosin in Korea. He passed away in 2006 and was interred at Arlington. I will always treasure that he took time out in his later years to support my RKBA advocacy by sending me news clippings to write about.

My uncle George Popa was also a Marine who served in WWII and Korea. He passed away in 2007 and was laid to rest at Old Mission San Luis Rey.

My father John Codrea was a Marine on Guam. He turned 21 on Pearl Harbor Day. Dad died in 2012 and was interred at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

This is a day I have much to contemplate, including a solemn obligation to prove worthy of those who went before, of those I miss. I’m sure it is the same for most of you and especially for those of you either in harm’s way or who desperately love those who are.

The Emperor's New Clothes

NRA Suits. Ever Heard of Buy One Get One Free? [More]
And as the story goes, the emperor was really naked. Which brings me to another point that seems to have gone off the radar: What's the deal with the "intern"?

I haven't heard anyone claim it's all made up. Why not?

I don't care if the wagon-circlers are "not inclined" to discuss anything outside of their professionally crafted, weasel-worded obfuscation -- they're the ones who need members to trust them enough to send money, not the other way around.  And until that gets unequivocally cleared up, it not only gives credence to things being what they look like, it is also profoundly unfair to the reputation of the young lady in question and the impact that will have on her life.

If it's not what it looks like, a good way to prove it would be to show where other interns have received similar accommodations as a matter of policy. They owe it to her.

In a past life, I used to do corporate policies and procedures, and such expenditures would be authorized and in accordance with approved and auditable criteria. If they don't have such expenditure controls, that brings up a whole 'nother level of unacceptably irresponsible fiscal practices. No wonder they say they're going broke.

If Fairfax doesn't come up with some credible documentation -- instead of digging in their heels and acting like anyone demanding accountability is a Bloomberg stooge -- the understandable default conclusion many will come to is that things are what they look like.

That, too, is grossly unfair to her.

Because if it is what it looks like, then she is being left to dangle in the wind while her "benefactor" hides. That's what Bill and Hillary did to young, impressionable and infatuated Monica, and look what her name will forever  be synonymous with.

Such behavior is the mark of a coward and a cad, and anyone who gives money to such is a fool. A man -- and I know the term as intended is "unfashionable" these days" -- takes responsibility for the bad he owns, as well as the good.

So which is it? Silence is unacceptable.

Gillibrand Lying about Gun Past and Media Helps Her Get Away with It
