Daily Defense

I wish I knew where that "bad" impression came from. Even the feral sons' carni-pigs didn't fear me.

'OK' Corralled

I guess it depends on who's doing it...

As regulars know, I'm still on limited blog posting, but I could not let this go unaddressed:

He held his thumb and forefinger together with his other three fingers extended ... This, whether intentional or not, resembled very closely a gesture that has been coopted by white power groups, alt right groups, and an anti-government group that calls itself the Three Percenters. [More]

What did the founder of the Three Percenters, a proponent of Constitutional government, consistently teach about racism being a manifestation of collectivism?

I thought you had to be smart and informed to get on Jeopardy.  And isn't there a saying about people in glass houses throwing stones?

I guess this means that overwhelmingly white and privileged contestants are saying it's not OK to be white...?

Runcie Getting Chance at Constitutional Justice He Would Deny to Gun Owners

High Apple Pie in the Sky Hopes

As regulars here know, I'm on limited blogging until further notice. That said, several of you have asked me what I think about the Supreme Court taking on the carry case 2A activists are all excited about and the antis are screaming "end of the world" over.

I've been disappointed so many times before, this pretty much sums up my sentiments:

Like the sign says, change my mind. Because I'd really like my pessimism to be proven spectacularly wrong.

The report also provides some nebulous “justification” political talking points, like  “it appears that the use of unmarked ‘ghost guns’ in shooting sprees, shootouts with police, and other crimes have also increased,” along with some anecdotal incidents to emphasize the point. What it does not do is quantify the scope of the perceived “problem” or qualify how such a rule change will do anything more than infringe on the rights of those inclined to obey laws. [More]

'Community Standards' Strike Again

[More -- and NSFW warning if you click on/enlarge this]

I went to the DC Metropolitan Police Department Facebook page looking for a potential photo for an AmmoLand article I'm prepping for publication and came across this. Interesting, that FB said my wishing everyone a contemplative Bill of Rights Day violated its "community standards" within minutes of it being posted, yet this has been up for three days.

I wanted to get this posted before they take it down. I wonder if the Secret Service knows...?

Riot Act Reading

I know I said for the time being, as my wife recovers, I'm going to limit blog posts to article announcements and the like. I'm breaking my own rule here, but this is, after all, my blog.

I just got done watching the pre-ordained Chauvin "guilty" verdicts and I saw something I considered curious about CBS News' go-to guy for their after-action discussion, Lorenzo Boyd, the University of New Haven's VP for Diversity and Inclusion and CDO. I wonder how many noticed what I did on his bookshelf:

That would be The Marx-Engels Reader:
This revised and enlarged edition of the leading anthology provides the essential writings of Marx and Engels--those works necessary for an introduction to Marxist thought and ideology.
Like I said, I just find the good doctor's literary interests and CBS News' choice of him as the reasoned voice of urban justice a mite curious, especially in light of "trained Marxists" heading up Black Lives Matter.

Eh, I'm probably making something out of nothing. It's not like "our friends across the aisle" are getting more brazenly in-your-face about their intentions, is it?

And no, sorry, this doesn't mean I'm back to blogging as normal, so please continue to hold back on newslink tips. I probably will, though, as time permits, add occasional posts like this when I see something that I don't see anybody else commenting on and happen to have a couple minutes to spare.

‘Aggressively Centric’ McConaughey May as Well Be a ‘Leftist’ on the Right to Arms

Supposedly adult Americans exercising their right of self-determination vote for celebrities based on all they know about them—which is generally “informed” by scripted, directed, optimally angled, and lighted images projected on a screen, and on the gushing praise of publicists. That they would cede great powers based on professionally-manipulated illusions speaks more to starry-eyed childishness than anything else. [More]

Ultimately, it's citizenship malpractice that gives political power to stage props like this.

Watts’ Tweet Reveals Racist, Sexist Motivation to ‘Replace’ White Men

I'm Back. Sort Of.

At least she got a helicopter ride out of the deal...

About that family medical emergency: My wife was in the hospital, the neurological intensive care unit. She's home now. She suffered a stroke. The good news is, so far speech, motor skills, and vision appear unaffected and the prognosis is hopeful.

She was outside pulling dandelions from the yard, and when she came in she suddenly was slammed with a headache she equated with a hammer blow, followed by excruciating pain. We went to the nearby Cleveland Clinic hospital. A CAT scan showed some bleeding and they airlifted her to the main campus where they have more specialists.

An MRI and angiogram, and several days of tests, concluded it was a benign perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage. Say that five times real fast. They determined there is no active bleeding, and she was told it is unlikely to recur. I guess if you're going to have a stroke, she says, that's the kind to have.

What this means for me is, with her being on ordered taking-it-easy for a while, I get to confirm exactly how much she does around this place by assuming those duties myself.

The result, at least for the interim, is that when I do find time for internet stuff, I'll need to focus exclusively on my articles. That means this blog is going to have to be limited to my article promotions and announcements. I'm just not going to be able to respond to email or social media inquiries and newslink tips, at least for the time being. So please, hold off while I figure out how much time I'll have for the necessary things and how to best apportion it.

I would like to thank those of you who, reacting to Monday's post, sent prayers, best wishes, and offers of help. It's gratifying to think that what I do resonates with a handful of my contemporaries. As you can imagine, it has been an intense past few days that included no small amount of frustration at being powerless to help her and fearing the worst.

For what it's worth, I don't blame the dandelions and will not be demanding any laws.

Family Medical Emergency

I may be gone for a day or two, I may be gone for longer.

I will not be posting/responding to comments, social media messages, or emails in the interim. Thank you for understanding and holding on to what you've got.

Biden-Harris Regime Calling Them ‘INITIAL Actions’ Tells Us All We Need to Know

These five “actions” will all allow the citizen disarmers to advance their agenda and gun owners need to join in opposing them, both with the groups we belong to and individually as force multipliers educating those within our spheres of influence. The sixth “action,” nominating David Chipman as Director of ATF, is something that is in our power to thwart and maybe even have some fun doing it. Aside from being a careerist with his snout in the ATF trough, he’s a creature of the Giffords machine and a demonstrable liar... [More]

He treated me like Emmett Till. No due process. Immediately assumed my guilt.” [More]

That's pretty funny coming from a guy whose party leadership demands we #BelieveWomen and demands "red flag" edicts.

I'm seeing this argument more and more, a talking point/meme/narrative in the making.

It looks more to me like Richard Kyte needs a change of brain. You'd think for an "ethics professional," he'd feel an obligation to know what the hell he's talking about before presuming to influence others.
