Feeling Safer in New Jersey

Reacting to escalating gun and gang violence across New Jersey, Gov. Jon S. Corzine on Tuesday unveiled an anti-crime strategy that he said would reduce the state's rising murder rate and allow people to feel safer in their communities.

I don't get it. I read the whole and don't see a word about not infringing on the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

Oh, wait--the object is to make them feel safer.

How to Stop Cops From Murdering Citizens

The answer to this problem seems clear: require background checks for all vendors of firearms to lessen the number of illegal sales and prevent potentially deadly consequences.

What the...

Oh, now I see:

That explains the sophomoric opinion.

These Guys Obviously Haven't Seen 'Hip Hop Opera' Yet

Police are investigating after two gangs of youths fought a gun battle on the streets of Manchester.

Officers found 10 bullet casings on the ground, gunshot damage to a car and one bullet lodged in a fence, after the exchange of fire between the rival groups.
I wish somebody would send these guys to the movies so we could end these outrages once and for all. Oh, and banning guns in the UK might help, too.

Without a Trace

Baltimore County police have traced the origins of the handguns used in two deadly domestic violence incidents last month...

Toohey said yesterday he could not provide the name of the store and why it was closed...

"We don't know who Tom is or what Tom did with it," Toohey said...

Wow, that's some pay-off.

You know what they need to facilitate their reaching even more dead ends?

Strapping Young Men

...and hopefully some young women, too.

A Keyboard and a .45 tells us about the National Collegiate Empty Holster Protest, coming soon (Oct. 22-26) to a campus near you.

Interesting idea. Look for plenty of hysteria on campuses where this happens, so I hope the protestors give adequate notice to preclude a SWAT response.

I look forward to the day when the holsters are filled and people think it's normal.

Dial 911 and Wait

Kegley's wife, Mary, discreetly called 911...Again, they called 911...The Kegleys again quietly called 911...they called 911 "as many as 20 times," Kegley said...Sometime around 10:30 a.m. when there was still no apparent sign of police, Mike Kegley left the house to "find out where the hell they were"...Kegley's workers again called 911...
I was going to say "unbelievable," but in truth, this doesn't surprise me at all.

UPDATE: Looks like they'd have waited even longer if the monster hadn't offed himself. What are people paying the guys with "patrol rifles" for?

Mindful of Michael

Chris Horton of Mindful Musings has some thoughts on Mayor Bloomberg.

He's shared some correspondence with me that he sent to Jay Wallace--Chris is putting his money where his mouth is and supporting the legal fund.

This Day in History: October 10

General William Howe...has issued a proclamation, prohibiting all persons attempting to quit the town, without a written license, on penalty of military execution, if taken, and if they escape they are to be proceeded against as traitors, and their effects to be forfeited...
