GRE Round Up for Mar. 15

There's some good stuff being turned out. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Howard Nemerov/Austin:
Self-Defense, California style

Daniel White/Cleveland:

Another Toledo robber shot, this time killed

Liston Matthews/Knoxville:
Sara Palin to testify in Knoxville

John Longenecker/Los Angeles:
Safer Streets 2010: 'Hollow victory' for gun owners in McDonald, Part II.

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
18 should be old enough to decide to be armed--even in Illinois

Go. Read. And please share the links.
You're doing that, right?

Ask Yourself What Purpose...

...The New York Times could possibly have for publishing this doctored photo.

There--I fixed it for them:

A Modest Proposal

In public all guns should be visible. Having a concealed weapon should be made a serious crime (immediate deportation until the appeal process is complete - no exceptions) [More]
Good grief.

We're the Only Ones Putting Guns on the Street Enough

More than 20 guns seized by a state-run firearms task force in Prince George's County are unaccounted for, and investigators believe that one of the weapons was used in the shooting of an off-duty police officer late last year, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation. [More]
"Only Ones," you see...

And isn't this observation just dripping with ironic truth?
"It's clearly not bad record-keeping," one source said.

Disarm 'em

(Scroll down for Chi-Town "buyback")

Try. Assign a representative from the Sun Times to do the deed and I'll give him my address.

How about you, Michael Sneed? Do you realize what an effete state-worshiping idiot you sound like with your "Bang! Bang!" bleatings?

A Public/Private Partnership

FBI Deputizes Private Contractors With Extraordinary Powers, Including 'Shoot to Kill'...

InfraGard is not readily accessible to the general public. Its communications with the FBI and Homeland Security are beyond the reach of the Freedom of Information Act under the "trade secrets" exemption, its website says. And any conversation with the public or the media is supposed to be carefully rehearsed. [More]
Sounds pretty fascist to me.

We do need to bear in mind that this report is written under the banner of "The Progressive." Still, we shouldn't just dismiss it out of hand. Is it leftist hysteria? Or does this make some good points that we ignore at our peril?

Here's the InfraGard website.

Anybody here have any kind of direct knowledge about them?

Are Fed Captors Denying Life-Saving Medicine to Fincher?

MOWCA Blog says they are:
Even before Wayne’s arrest, he had health issues that included Pericardial effusion (excess fluid around the heart). The Federal Government knew this as soon as they took Wayne into custody. Wayne must take medication to reduce the fluid build-up around his heart. The specific drug he takes is Lasix.

However, over the last month, the people who run the Forrest City facility claim they cannot get (or afford) the drug Lasix so Wayne cannot get his medication. Hence, they have refused to give Wayne the medication he requires.

I thought it was a requirement. This sounds like, among other things, the legal definition of deliberate indifference. We need to figure out what we can do about this without delay.

The local newspaper is the Times-Herald of Forrest City. They're likely to have far more influence than a handful of gun blogs. Please join me--right now--in asking them to investigate and shine a light on this:

I addressed my email to the publisher and managing editor. Their edresses are listed in the above link to the paper.

Do this right now. It sounds like a man's life is at stake. I should not have to say "please." And pass this on to others.

MOWCA has also posted the docket.

If you're new to WarOnGuns and don't know Wayne Fincher's story, feel free to explore my archive.

Archimedes’ .45

L. Neil Smith takes an ignorant Canadian hoplophobe who's sure he's right (is there any other kind?) to task. [Read]

The personal defenselessness advocate actually made this comment under his own article:
I regard myself as more free than you because I don't need to own a gun to feel safe.
It's about how he feels, you see. And he regards himself as more free because he's not allowed to make the choice for himself...

'nuff said.

There's nothing really you can do with this except understand that if and when the time comes, the cud-chewers' main function will be to serve as predator chow.

Interesting. Even in death, they'll still be giving aid and comfort to the enemies of liberty.

We're the Only Ones Protecting Our Children Enough

Authorities say an off-duty police officer leaving an Anaheim fast-food restaurant with his 6-year-old daughter shot and killed a man who attacked him in the parking lot. [More]
What a great outcome.

Too bad Southern California "authorities"--particularly Orange County Sheriff (and Oath Breaker) Sandra Hutchens--would rather see you and your child dead than "allow" you to be armed.

That's because our lives aren't as valuable as those of Sandra and her "Only Ones."

Reconcile This...

There can be no "reconciliation"... [More]
Not when "reconciliation" means you must accept what we force on you--or else.

Tea Partiers must examine would-be leaders closely

I'm seeing some Republicans who have been part of the establishment, who never committed a restoring act in their tenure and who have actually been part of the problem, working the crowds, and making sure their names are associated with leadership—whether they've actually made a career of leading in a principles-first way or not. I've witnessed speeches that were really collections of platitudes, the speaker pandering to the passions of the crowd with the right buzz words, but never really saying much that couldn't be equivocated into something entirely different by a skillful weasel-worder applying the right spin.
