Dukes on Palin

Alaskan talk show host Michael Dukes knows Sarah Palin and would like to share his insights.

Per his press release:
Michael met Sarah first in 2002 during her run for Lt. Governor, and has since had her on his radio and television show many times. He can talk about his personal experiences with her, from the start of her statewide political career to her history making defeat of incumbent Governor Frank Murkowski.

As an aside, he invited me as a guest again on Firearms Friday. I'll have to find out if you can listen live--otherwise, I'll post a download link to the file afterward.

This is a "Stick Up"?

Too bad they are willing to sacrifice this basic tenet of American democracy to the political self-interests of members cowed by the powerful gun lobby.
Yeah-- we all know "home rule" means local ordinances by urban Bolsheviks trump unalienable rights.

Now pick a different right to violate locally and watch the WaPo handwringers change their tune.

An Expert Opinion

Nigeria: Mass Gun Ownership Not Solution to Violent Crimes
And who better to listen to on how to create a stable, peaceful and prosperous society than a Nigerian?

Relative Ease

Changes to Ohio's concealed carry gun law make it easier for permit holders to carry a hidden gun in a car.
It's always been easy. Getting caught has been the only hard part.

I know some will be touting the improvements. I look at this and think "Gee, there sure are a lot of infringements."

But then I remember that thinking in those terms generally results in ridicule by our betters.

The Buck Stops Where?

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has ruled in favor of the University in June, after reviewing a complaint by Public Safety’s Fraternal Orders of Police (FOP) union, who claimed that the University’s policy of not allowing Public Safety officers to carry guns was an occupational hazard.
Ah, backdoor gun control by unelected bureaucrats accountable only to their administration masters...

Let's see...OSHA reports in to the Department of Labor, and Secretary Chao reports to...the "Vote Freedom First President," you know, the republican who gun owners put in office...

We're the Only...

In an equally absurd scenario, three alleged goons who robbed a policeman of his service revolver and over Rs 29,000 in cash, escaped simply by riding away in, of all possible gateway vehicle, a cycle rickshaw.
I have no wisecrack that will do justice to the comedy gold already set before us.

Return to Blue Island

We talked yesterday about how Blue Island mayoral candidate Tommy Brown violated all kinds of gun laws when he held an "unauthorized" gun "buyback" (note the problematic words are in quotation marks).

Here's something I didn't realize at the time: He'd been publicly warned off and did it anyway. He intentionally and with pre-meditation engaged in civil disobedience and committed multiple "gunfelonies," and he has not been arrested or prosecuted.

I'd like to do that too, so I thought I'd ask the chief of police if he'd cut me the same deal:

Chief Hogland,

This is an open letter--I'm sharing it with others who believe like me that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Seeing as how you've given Blue Island mayoral candidate Tommy Brown and his gun "buyback" sellers a pass on arrest and prosecution for multiple counts of illegal firearms transfers without going through the required FOID process and waiting period, I'm thinking of setting up an unlicensed facility just like he did and doing the same thing, especially if I don't have to fear arrest and legal consequences--just like he didn't.

Before I go out and buy a bunch of $100 gift certificates, I'd like your assurance that the same privileges and immunities you afforded a well-connected democrat politician will also be extended to me, an ordinary citizen. We are all supposed to be equal under the law, aren't we?

So how about it, chief? Can I also come into your jurisdiction and commit multiple felonies without fear of criminal repercussions? I know lots of people who would also like to take advantage of this gun "buyback" loophole as well, and we're looking to you to let us know the worst that will happen is you'll confiscate what you find.

I look forward to your affirmative response so I can get the word out. Gosh--Blue Island sounds like just about the most "gun friendly" community I've ever heard of, especially since many people who've illegally bought and sold guns in your state are doing some serious time.

Please let me know, because I don't want to attempt this if you're going to selectively apply enforcement of the laws.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Taking the Fight to the Terrorists

Northampton council, which did not implement the Act during the past 12 months, said that it had used the legislation on five previous occasions to tackle dog fouling. Councils have used the RIPA to recruit children for surveillance operations. Dudley and County Durham exploited the Act to send children into shops with secret video and audio equipment to see whether they could buy cigarettes and alcohol.

So: How's this freedom for security swap working out over there...?

We're the Only Ones Honesto Enough

At least 400 municipal police will be fired in Ciudad Juárez because they failed honesty tests, the mayor of the border city announced, and Mexican soldiers were patrolling in their place Wednesday.
Either that or the "Only Ones" who weren't corruptable were weeded out...

Hey, what's the excuse we keep hearing here? It's only "a few bad apples"...?

Sweet Oblivion

The student told police she was walking alone to her car in the first floor of the college's two-story parking structure at 6:45 p.m. Friday when the attack occurred. She was listening to an MP3 player.
Hey, now, that seems like a good idea...

We're the Only Ones Heirs of Ali Enough

"This is going to piss people off in this province," said Noel, 30, of Nashville, Tenn. "If you take away people’s ability to defend themselves, it’s going to put everyone on edge."

Under Iraqi law, each household has the right to have an AK-47 rifle and one magazine of ammunition.

American officials believe the security tactic may be part of a ploy to remove weapons from Sunnis in a province run by a Shiite-led government.
Ah, "democracy" and "community policing" in action I see. Not that the situation wouldn't be reversed were the balance of power different.

At least Maj. Gen. Abdul al-Kareem Khaleef candidly admits the obvious, that "only Iraqi security forces and government security guards will be allowed to possess the weapons."

You know, "Only Ones"...

And war is hell.
