New Jersey desperately needs COBOL Programmers. That’s what the State’s Governor, Phil Murphy, apparently meant today, when he said at a press conference that the State needed volunteers who with “Cobalt” computer skills to help fix 40-year-old-plus unemployment insurance systems that are currently overwhelmed as a result of COVID-19-related job losses. At 62, Murphy's been around long enough to where that mistake is pretty much inexcusable for someone who had a career in finance. It makes me wonder what else he's faked his way through, along with who he knew, who he blew and who he screwed.

The wife has made a good living as a contractor with COBOL and other archaic skill sets over the last 3+ decades.  It's surprising how many have not transitioned. She'll be wrapping up her current assignment in August. I'll show her this for info, but I ain't moving to New Jersey.

Changing the Perspective

It really seems to me almost every article is missing the point. Idaho didn't "expand" or "strengthen" anything. It stopped infringing. Can we change the narrative from "Oh thank you, government," to "about damn time?"

I know he couldn't have inferred that from my words about the posted article I linked to because anyone familiar with my work knows I agree with that.

Here's last night's Armed American Radio Hour Three, and yeah, I especially thought Neil hit it out of the park in the third segment, starting at @30:30 in.

The winning lawsuits being ramrodded through by SAF deserve recognition and they don't come easy or cheap.

I guess the reason that resonated with me when Neil brought them up and then started talking about NRA was it recalled for me something I've documented time and again: SAF announcing a victory and making sure to credit NRA when it participated vs. NRA claiming sole credit and not acknowledging others who may have played a larger part. Sorry, but I've just seen too many times where credit has been an issue--and it's never been due to SAF.

'My Wife Won't Allow a Gun in the House'

I actually heard someone say that one time and asked: "What is she prepared to do if someone brings one in anyway?"

I bring that up because a frequent correspondent emailed me a story about one of his friends whose wife won't let him get a gun in this time of panic buying. He thought he'd had her talked into it, but she balked outside the gun store, partially because "of the people waiting in the parking lot - some douche bags showing off their big, bad dogs. Morons."

I share this for two reasons:

One is to point out how anyone who lets that scare them off and paralyze them into inaction would probably be worse than useless in a DGU situation. Until both these people work on their ability to process reality and personal responsibility, just adding hardware is unlikely to solve their vulnerability issues.

Two is because "our side" needs to recognize that hoplophobia is very real for some, and behavior that intimidates nervous newcomers like this woman is even less helpful than the stereotypical bloviating gun store clerk with an obnoxious, know-it-all attitude.

In fairness, who knows if the dog owners really were morons? The account I read had the wife scared and swayed by practically everything and the husband feeding her neuroses. I could say I'd have escorted my wife into the store, but I wouldn't have had to: I made sure mine was receptive on our third date when I took her to the range, well before any commitments had been made.
