ATF document admits to retaliation and ‘ethical violations’

The document, represented by the source as the result of meetings between Deputy Director Thomas E. Brandon and a “working group” that took place earlier this year, accuses Counsel of “inhibit[ing] leaders from doing the right thing” by having “too much involvement in all bureau processes,” and among its solutions recommends “Do not tolerate ethical violations from Counsel” and “Establish transparency wherein counsel cannot mask activities, records, etc. with ‘privilege.’” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner exclusive brings you an inside document that includes some corroborating admissions and some stiffly-pointed fingers--a precursor of what we can expect from the IG report?

Ethics, "Authorized Journalist"-Style

Buying official merchandise at the DNC means making a donation the Obama campaign, an activity that is generally frowned upon for members of the media. [More]
As opposed to giving the campaign free advertising in the form of "straight news" stories.

I watched the speeches last night--I think the talking heads who say the message was weak have it all wrong--it's not about meaningful content, it's about revival tent evangelism, and anybody who thinks there is still a substantial segment of "undecideds" out there to sway by staying middle-of-the-road is engaging in wishful thinking.

Biden repeating the bumper sticker BinLaden/GM mantra is what it's all about, that and branding.

If it were about logic, when The One kept telling the writhing faithful "You did that!" someone would have called him on his own words and shouted back "Oh no you di-n't."

Concealed Permit Holders Gone Wild!

If he did it, punish him. [Read]

But we all know the main reason the factoid of his license is considered headline-making newsworthy is to feed the meme that you and I aren't as trustworthy as, say, since we're talking Jackson, MS, these guys. Or...

I am informed I need to move my links up a few states...

Abby Rogers, "Authorized Journalist"

How would you say "Law and Order Reporter" in German?  [Read]

And naturally, she starts out a "straight news" story on lawful political activity to protect an article in the Bill of Rights with a reference to Aurora.

Jeez, Abby, got much of a transparent agenda here?

We're the Only Ones Making Honest Mistakes Enough

The man added, “It was an honest mistake because the cops were frightened, as they were patrolling, he came running out.” [More]
I love the way they trivialize and justify killing the wrong man.

The antis say we can't carry concealed because the cops won't be able to tell the bad guys from the good.   It would appear, gun or not, in Furious Mike Paradise, they can't tell the victims from the perps--or else are just too scared to make the distinction.

And naturally, "The police account...differed from what people who witnessed the shooting said."

Ah well, the important thing is, our community heroes made it home at the end of their shift.

Intolerable Acts

This allows prosecutors to dispense with pesky constitutional rights...[More]

The Mote, the Beam and the Elephant

The mote he focuses on:
Jesse Jackson was one of the few willing to come out and say he wants to ban all guns except bolt-action rifles, shotguns and revolvers.
The beam he avoids:
...97 percent of all shooting suspects in the city were black or Latino...
The elephant in the room he dares not speak of:
And we also can't forget to look at race--not as a cause of violent crime, but as an indicator of populations most directly affected by and responsive to a continuing history of destructive government policies.
...because that would expose him for the profiteer that he's always been.

Issue 2, August 2012 is now online. [Read]

Many of you don't know this about me, but I spent many, many years specializing in policies, procedures and system manuals for a large defense contractor and a medical practice management conglomerate, as well as being directly responsible for compliance in a pharmaceutical manufacturing firm and a medical device manufacturing operation--all intensely regulated industries with rigorous government oversight audits that can carry severe civil and criminal penalties for noncompliance.

I can't imagine setting out in any highly-regulated business without controls in place to assure my organization was demonstrably operating within industry requirements any more than I can imagine setting off across the sea in a ship without charts and instrumentation/navigation aids and operations, maintenance and repair protocols and instructions. A service like this makes such validation systems available and affordable for not just the big establishments, but for smaller operators, too.

Having documented the business and life-changing dangers FFLs face many times over the years, from what ATF did to Red's Trading Post, to Project Gunwalker to the persecution of the Reese family and more, I consider such services and tools essential for competitiveness and for basic survival.

By way of full disclosure, I never have received a dime from these folks and I'm not an FFL, so there's nothing in it for me to call your attention to them one way or another except that having a thriving firearms supply and distribution network in this country is something I consider essential to freedom (actually, recommending this works against my personal financial interests--I get compensation for my Examiner articles, and writing about gun dealers who get in trouble with ATF always seems to generate page views). My support is based on professional respect for the services they provide and personal respect for the way I've seen them express and conduct themselves.  If you are an FFL, or have a friend who is one, I suggest you follow this link to learn more.
