We're the Only Ones Uncharged Enough

Charges against two Monterey County policemen arrested last summer in Mexico for alleged gun and ammunition smuggling have been dropped by a Mexican court.

...The Mexican court didn't explain why the charges were dropped, said presidio spokesman Eric Hamilton. [More]
Yeah, they could have just forgotten they had them. I suppose some might believe that. Still, does anyone think a non-"Only One" would have had the charges dropped without explanation?

Mind you, I'm not accusing anyone of threatening to talk, thereby implicating any Mexican official(s) as partners in whatever apparently was(n't) going on. That would be irresponsible without anything other than a gut feeling that this story stinks and I don't buy it for a second.

Perhaps I'd be less suspicious if we weren't being consistently lied to.

Thomas Naziworth: Democrat

Not everyone thinks the idea of increasing gun ownership is a good idea. Any effort to put more guns on the street is wrong headed, says the head of the Clay County Democratic Party.

"There are too many guns," said Thomas Nazworth, Democratic Party chairman. "You’ve already got every right to defend yourself in your home. What is this going to be the wild, wild west where everybody has got sidearms? That is not answer." [More]

You can tell Thomas what an idiot you think he is educate him as to what current Florida law already provides for and what years of experience have conclusively proven by contacting him here.

We're the Only Ones Doing You a Favor Enough

They said the DOT officer interrogated them. Then he ordered them to stand in front of their recreational vehicle's headlights while he checked inside, searching for marijuana or wads of cash. The officer never asked for their driver's licenses or proof of registration, they said...

"It was so strange. I literally felt afraid for my life," Jane Schneider, 59, said Monday. "I felt I could have bodily harm. ... He was very menacing and threatening to us."

One of their complaints is that the officer who stopped them repeatedly demonstrated a lack of knowledge about firearms laws, even though they were legally transporting a .40-caliber handgun with a concealed-weapon permit from the Lee County Sheriff's Department.

Carl Schneider said he was particularly upset that the officer implied he could simply call the sheriff and have the permit revoked, "which is absolutely not the case."

...But the officers didn't leave, he added, until the first officer "had made us feel as if he was somehow doing me a favor by letting us go."[More]
But of course--it's the same technique Inspector Clouseau uses when he stumbles over something to divert embarrassment from his ineptitude and incompetence. It's particularly useful after menacing a citizen without cause.

He had to let them know that even though he's a thug and a fool, he's an "Only One" and they're not.

And, as typical for our wonderful "Authorized Journalist" watchdog press, we know the names of the citizens, but not of the dangerously incompetent bullying government worker. Why is that? Maybe reporter William Petroski (bpetroski@dmreg.com) can shed some light...

UPDATE: Petroski is standing on "awaiting confirmation from DoT." Meanwhile, his competitors are reporting "Iowa Department of Transportation officer Darrell D. Wiegand."

If I were to give Darrell a call, and I'm not suggesting you do, I might be inclined to begin the conversation with "What's that I smell? What's that I smell?"

Interesting. I'll keep an eye on this as the date draws near.

Holder Gun Discharge Injures Mexican President

MEXICO CITY: In what could be a setback to U.S./Mexican cooperative crime fighting efforts, Attorney General Eric Holder accidentally discharged a weapon, slightly injuring Mexican President Felipe Calderón at a joint press conference where captured cartel firearms were being displayed. [More]
Stories like this seem to come with almost a regular frequency, don't they?

We're Being Lied to About U.S. Guns and Mexican Cartels. Why?

Ask yourself who could be opposed to ATF officials--testifying under oath--as to the complete truth of what they know about Mexican cartel guns? Besides someone who finds an advantage in suppressing the truth?

Forget the gun rights issue for a moment--you'd think it would be a matter of national security. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column continues unraveling a lie. Still, just having a few of us realize this won't change anything. More need to know--and do something about it. And you can help.

Asking for help sharing the link isn't too much to ask, is it?

This Day in History: April 1

The Troops who have had the small Pox will march on Monday next, about one hundred and forty or fifty as appears by the Officers Returns: The remaining part will go into the Hospitals, the day after tomorrow. There is a great Difficulty in providing Cloathing and Blankets; Recruiting is very slow. The Necessity of keeping a large Proportion of the Inhabitants, in actual Service, upon the Shores, has, in a great Measure, been the Source of this Misfortune, the Malitia giving considerable Wages above the Public Allowance, to men they have hired to take their Tour. This State is in a Melancholy Situation: The neighboring States fail in sending their Proportion of Troops. It is now in the Power of the Enemy to make horrid Devastations, should they attempt it. In a very short time we shall be destitute of Troops excepting about two hundred engag’d for fifteen months, and one sixth of our own Alarm list & Malitia. [More]
Very real personal hardships were endured. Very real personal sacrifices were made.
