Olympia rally draws defiant gun owners to protest new edict

At the end of the rally, organizer Seim and others burned their concealed carry permits, noting rights are not bestowed by government officials and thus do not require their permission. In spite of uncounted acts of civil disobedience and a crowd armed with long guns and side arms, rally attendees, while exuberant and defiant, remained peaceful. [More]

Goodbye, Louis

I got a call from an old friend's wife informing me he passed away this morning at their home in L.A. He was a good man, one of the best. He deserves a memorial. I may write one if she approves, but probably won't even want to ask for a few days.

I'm grateful I got a chance to speak with him on the phone a week ago, to catch up on what's been happening since last we spoke, and to share our hopes for the future. You never know, my wife observed, when you are with someone, if it may be the last time.
