‘Vindictive prosecution’ subjects self-defense to ‘community standards'

In the doctor’s case, Berberian revealed the standards he wants imposed when he argued Simon sought a confrontation and should have locked himself in his home (presumably making sure he could safely usher his wife in first). Berberian also criticized the number of firearms Simon owned, alleging that showed the doctor was “hypersensitive,” and prone to using unlawful deadly force due to “a victimization complex.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report  notes what the doctrinaire monopoly of violence fanatics mean by "common sense gun safety laws." Perhaps a new term to describe the type of society they envision would be "Berberic."

Dobyns prepares ‘21 questions’ for indifferent-to-date legislators

First, read the 21 questions. Ask yourself, were this your case against the government, if you’d want them answered. Then be a force multiplier and help spread the word -- something even now most major media with a few notable exceptions has avoided doing -- just like with Fast and Furious. That means if the word is to get out, it’s up to people who care to bypass a resistant “legitimate news media.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report is also today's Five-Minute Activism project.  The establishment press will ignore this, so the politicians will figure it's not important.  Help convince them otherwise. Please take a moment and spread the word.

I love how the "progressives" she's no doubt indiscriminately spraying also almost universally hold the position that police are the "Only Ones" who can be trusted with guns in a public setting.  I'll bet they'd all be fine if Officer Bipolar/Possessed here walked into the House and Senate galleries and other public buildings with a gun, solely because of the magic badge and uniform. I have been to many an armed event over the years, and never once seen a gun owner act like this.

A Brief History of Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership

JPFO served a function matched by no other group in the freedom struggle, mobilizing a constituency that up to that point lacked voice. Oddly enough, it resonated as loudly with Gentiles as with Jews, a point that surprised Aaron but one he took in stride. He happily accepted any support in the quintessential battle that would never again allow government—or anyone—to attempt to wipe out His People—or anyone. [More]
How we got from there to here.  This is really a good behind-the-scenes narrative.

I am painfully aware of some friends who do not accept the new "here."  I can tell you this much from discussions I am not at liberty to share in detail: This came from the heart of Alan Korwin and those he credited with assistance. It was not directed and controlled and finessed from "on high."

I do see one assertion I expect to be contested:
Some of the writers, apparently led by Claire Wolfe, considered taking the group over, but they lacked the resources to do so.
I do not have specific knowledge of what that entailed or what resources were on the table. I won't be surprised to hear more on that from The Zelman Partisans, and if a rebuttal is presented there, I'll make sure and link to it from WarOnGuns.

-----

This is tangentially-related, but it's not part of my promotion of Korwin's piece, so I'm fine-printing it to set it apart:

There's one other personal note I think it's important to add -- In group discussion, I requested clarification if there is any topic I am prohibited from writing about for JPFO, or any desire to pre-approve or censor what I say. Alan Gottlieb assured me I am free to continue as I have been since before the merger took place. Naturally, I would not abuse that with an attack against the group or any of its leaders, or anything that runs counter to the mission and principles of JPFO, and expect it to be posted on their website -- If I feel that strongly, it will be time for me to leave and do the criticizing from my own house, not theirs.

I've seen comments posted around that my association with JPFO could make people perceive me as being a "sellout," particularly since I have not joined in on some of the more scathing criticisms of Gottlieb, some leveled by good friends of mine.  If anyone is dishonest or dumb enough to buy into that, I can't get too worked up over it, because that type attacks me all the time. Anybody who thinks I do this to be popular hasn't been paying attention.  I have some big differences with Alan, and he knows about them (my friend Dave Workman and I are polar opposites on this, for instance), and I'd have written about what I consider to be a "new paradigm" this week except the breaking Dobyns story and another tip I'm tracking down requiring immediate attention and focus.

I'll disagree with anybody when I think an alternative voice merits being heard. If that means it makes people -- any people -- want to have nothing to do with me, so be it.

About the Dobyns Story

I just got paid a very nice compliment by a reader.  After thanking him, I replied:
Please do everything you can to notify everyone from other activists to Jason Chaffetz at Oversight to big media-- just like in the early days of Fast and Furious, we had to pound and push and scream to get things noticed. The only way we can get attention for this is to do the same, meaning we need all the voices we can get spreading the word, sharing the links, demanding it not be buried and banging pots and pans until they can no longer ignore us. I have another story I'm still trying to verify that points to more corruption, and again, I expect to be pestering folks on that one, too...:-)
I wish I didn't have to, but what else am I to do?

Revoked judgment in Dobyns case reveals further government misconduct

Contained between such surprisingly literary judicial bookends is much “legalese,” and much “backstory” that in many cases reads more like a novel than like a record of dry facts. It's almost surreal when figures from Operation Fast and Furious appear in this account, and they act in character consistent with how they established themselves in that story. This time, with additional “cast members” (and the legal document at times reads just like a script), the technique of “slow walking” (as in deliberately dragging their feet investigating the arson of Dobyns’ home) brings to mind another “walking” technique employed by ATF in that other installment of the bureau’s directed misadventures. Now these people know how to write concentrated talking points!

Except they may have left out the "white privilege" part (I don't know because I couldn't force myself to slog through so much dense hyperbole).

Which means it's up to an old ammosexual gun-humper to recall an inconvenient truth:
To show discriminatory application of the law, the Zimmerman outcome is juxtaposed against that in the Marissa Alexander case, ignoring that Alexander was not under attack when she left her house, went to her garage, retrieved a gun from her vehicle’s glove box and returned to the house to point the gun “in the direction” of her alleged abuser who had his hands in the air, and then fired a shot. To cry Jim Crow racism here, especially since all involved were black, is at best misguided. So that, naturally, is what the editorial does.
That, and of course, Zimmerman's attorney didn't present a SYG defense.

Personally, I'm glad she's finally out. I hope she learned her lesson and everyone now agrees if she's safe enough to be living among us, she's safe enough to get her gun back.

What? We're being lied to? And none of the "progressives" screaming about how Alexander has been denied her rights want her to get a fundamental and supposedly unalienable one back?

For example, a minor is restricted from watching films or playing certain video games that portray deadly weaponry and gunplay. Currently, however, minors of any age may gain unfettered access to a gun show. [More]
See? We've got the "precedent," so there's nothing to stop us!

We're the Only Ones Quieting Things Down Enough

Now, another suit, filed in U.S. District Court for Eastern New York, claims that a disabled FDNY firefighter injured on 9/11 had $100,000 worth of guns confiscated by police for shouting in his own home – and that the cops conspired to convert his guns into police department property without compensation. Write Someone Else's Congressman

I occasionally get feedback after I ask readers to write a specific congressman that the contact form only accepts communications from constituents living in their district. That's intentional avoidance, of course, as things they introduce, sponsor and vote on affect us all, and they aren't shy about accepting donations from across district and state lines.

What I do is use the address and phone of their local branch office (sometimes requiring I go to the USPS site to get the "+4" for the zip. It's also why I urge all advocates to get on social media, because you can tweet or message any of them that way, and their staffers will pick up and convey to the decision-makers what they see trending.

And no, of course I don't recommend using Facebook or Twitter for trivial pursuits.  I urge you to use it for C3I purposes. Otherwise, you are ceding entire vital areas to a documented enemy, who as WarOnGuns Correspondent Mack H observes, has weaponized social media and uses it to great effect.

More here.

Decisions, Decisions

I am worried, however, about encouraging a plan that arms too many civilians. As someone who has spent 40 years in the criminal-justice system, I have been around guns and the people who use them for both good and bad reasons. I have seen the murder and mayhem that weapons can cause when used by criminals, but I also know of many cases in which guns were used by private citizens who, despite their best intentions, caused more harm than good, as well as cases in which a failure to safeguard the weapon resulted in horrific tragedy and the loss of innocent life. In light of recent events, however, I am convinced that Jews everywhere are now targets of terrorists intent on killing us. Accordingly, I am leaning closer to changing my mind on this issue as I come to grips with the realization that no police force, however superb, can always be everywhere. It is really that simple. [More]
Yeah, well, let everybody know when you stop being a dithering, hand-wringing squish and accept the burdens of freedom.  Because right now, you're pretty goddamn useless, and truth be known, if you're just thinking about maybe thinking about this now, it's probably too late for you and for anyone ignorant and indecisive enough to pay attention to you.

Judge alleges ‘fraud on the court’ by government attorneys in Dobyns case

“[T]he court ... issued an order voiding the prior judgment based upon indications that the defendant [ATF], through its counsel, had committed fraud on the court,” Allegra wrote. “[F]raud on the court consists of conduct: 1. On the part of an officer of the court; 2. That is directed to the ‘judicial machinery’ itself; 3. That is intentionally false, willfully blind to the truth, or is in reckless disregard for the truth; 4. That is positive averment or is concealment when one is under duty to disclose; 5. That deceives the court.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner report provides further evidence of the corrupt arrogance that is the trademark of Eric Holder's Justice Department, which itself has the tone set for what it thinks it can get away with by the Obama administration.

As with "Fast and Furious," this is dangerous stuff to be involved with unless and until it can gain wider exposure, and if it does, those bringing this information out can expect to be mercilessly smeared. Still, and because of that, I'm asking everyone who considers him or herself a Bill of Rights advocate to take action by sharing this far and wide, including chiding other media to report on this, and by making investigation expectations known to Rep Chaffetz of House Oversight (@jasoninthehouse) and Sen Grassley of Senate Judiciary (@ChuckGrassley).

As "experience hath shewn," exposure and light are the best defenses against corruption relying on staying hidden in the shadows.

Gumbel hatred for ‘pig’ gun owners not uncommon for establishment sports media

"There are a few things I hate more than the NRA,” Gumbel admitted. “I mean truly.”
What those “few things” are remained unstated. ISIL? Communism? Nazism? Murderers? Child molesters? For some reason I’m also conjuring up Arlo Guthrie’s list of Group W bench offenders: “Mother-rapers . . . father-stabbers . . . father-rapers!” [More]

Virginia Lobby Day highlighted effective gun rights activism

On Monday, I made it to the General Assembly building at around 10 a.m. The weather was as perfect as one could hope for this time of year, sunny and warming into the 50s. VCDL activist teams had already been busy meeting with legislators since 8:30, and the rally with speakers was scheduled to start at 11. In contrast to the hysterical reaction we saw recently in Washington State, many of the activists were armed, and those with concealed carry permits could even open carry inside the building as a matter of course and without causing a massive freak-out. As long as the prudes (and what else are prohibitionists?) are going to treat us as one and the same, why not find common interests? Again, as with the weed people or Pink Pistols, tolerance doesn't require you to personally accept or approve of the way others chose their pursuit of happiness, just that you don't try to impose your way on peaceable human beings through force or fraud.

We each have one life to live, and a guarantee is we'll all experience our share of pain, either self-created or imposed. It doesn't make moral sense adding to the portion of another -- unless they allow you no choice but a defensive response.

Besides, even after checking out their "particular set of skills" (just so I could do my due diligence and save you the arduous task of detailed research, you understand) I find these ladies a lot more wholesome than the repressed control freaks who base their entire existence on bending others to their will.  Talk about obscene.

Is the Sky at Least Sagging a Bit?

Instead we encourage you to save that money to spend on fun stuff, like ammunition, training or a NFA tax stamp for the suppressors that will soon be legal in Iowa! [More]
I'm all for not diverting money to phony appeals. That said, I'd be interested in hearing what these folks have to say. I don't know that there's ever a time where we've got things so under control we no longer need to stay on high alert, and if we've entered a period where the likelihood of threat success is reduced, it would seem the best time to do some reclamation work.

That's not to say ignore "fun stuff," because "pursuit of happiness" is a big part of "the blessings of Liberty," although I personally am not inclined to register my property and pay for the intrusion to boot.

Different individuals and groups have different tactics. It's our job to evaluate them and decide which ones work for us. In order to do that, we need to know about them.

There's an App for That

And wouldn't it be only "common sense" to tie it in to a database of all registered gun owners?  You know, as "a good first step"...? [More]
