Connecticut rights group joins in brief for state gun law challenge

The brief, filed by a team of attorneys that includes noted Second Amendment lawyer, scholar and author Stephen P. Halbrook, argues that Connecticut’s ban on so-called “assault weapons“ and standard capacity ammunition magazines violates the Second Amendment, and that “provisions of [the] ban are unconstitutionally vague.” [More]

'Liberal' gun group member proposes online campaign to #EndGunShaming

Having had time to think more on this, some other thoughts now occur to me. First, the shame is not on gun owners, it is on the people stooping to insults and crudities. I refuse to feel shame for some obnoxious troll's many character defects. And why engage with someone essentially screaming insults? You would ignore and put distance between yourself and someone doing that in the real world (keeping the option of defending yourself open if need be), so why not practice the same prudent discipline in the virtual one? Rhetoric aside, there is one point that needs to be made in re background checks, from no less a source than the feds: "Effectiveness depends on the ability to reduce straw purchasing, requiring gun registration and an easy gun transfer process."

So this isn't about siding with either group, or pointing out flaws, or questioning motives, or effectiveness, or tactics, or anything else--plenty of other places will host that conversation. The discussion I'm inviting here centers on that core point.

Is it debatable?
