We're the Only Ones "Faces of Death" Enough

The picture shows the lifeless body of an 18-year-old Orange County girl named Nikki Catsouras, who was killed in a devastating car crash on Halloween day in 2006. The accident was so gruesome the coroner wouldn't allow her parents, Christos and Lesli Catsouras, to identify their daughter's body. But because of two California Highway Patrol officers, a digital camera and e-mail users' easy access to the "Forward" button, there are now nine photos of the accident scene, taken just moments after Nikki's death, circulating virally on the Web. In one, her nearly decapitated head is drooping out the shattered window of her father's Porsche.[More]
But God forbid you should take a picture of "Only Ones."
An investigation had revealed that the images, taken as a routine part of a fatal accident response, had been leaked by two CHP dispatchers: Thomas O'Donnell, 39, and Aaron Reich, 30.

Ship operators should instead explore non-lethal solutions, said Jeff Pierce, Washington-based executive director of Maritime Police International (MPI). MPI is a global security organization whose membership includes former U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy and law-enforcement officers.

Arming civilian maritime crews “is a very bad idea unless there is enough firepower to repel the pirates effectively and repeatedly…not something that merchant crews are capable of doing in most instances,” Pierce said.

“Many insurance companies either forbid weapons or dramatically increase rates for ships with weapons on board,” Pierce said. The insurers “have historically told crews to surrender peacefully and to let the insurance personnel handle the situation. ... Arming crews has always been a concern within the industry due to the potential for mutiny.” [More]
Right, Jeff. And there's no financial incentive for you to say that, is there?

First of all, we saw your absurd conclusion put to the lie yesterday, with the tale of the Somali "vigilantes" I mentioned here.

Secondly, why don't you tell the "Eleven...killed and 21 reported missing and presumed dead" in 2008 about the benefits of telling "crews to surrender peacefully"?

If you don't trust their crews, or value your cushy contracts more than the worthless lives of these replaceable nobodies, shipping companies need to high better help and treat them better. And you're worried about mutiny? Yeah, leave the command staff outnumbered and unarmed--that'll certainly reduce the chances.

Funny, Jeff--once you get a lucrative gig, your hirelings are magically trustworthy enough to "provide armed convoy escort protection." Aren't you worried they might mutiny?

Oh, built I forget. You're all "Only Ones," aren't you, Jeff? Just all-around more trustworthy than the rest of us who don't have powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men...?

Y'know what? If I need an escort, there's always the Yellow Pages. At least I'll know what I'm getting, and if I get screwed using one of those services it won't be as morally reprehensible as what you're pulling.

Looks Like Some of Us Won't Be Going to the 2A Blog Bash?

Interesting "coincidence" here.

The following topic opened just yesterday in our Examiner.com Google discussion group under the title "Would the Gun Rights guys explain this to me?" It was posted by one of their conservative columnists in Arizona:
I recently signed up to attend the 2nd amendment blog bash <http://www.2ablogbash.com/> thinking it would be a good opportunity to network with other AZ bloggers as well as bloggers interested in gun rights, and learn more about the issue.

Because I'm not a dedicated gun rights blogger, I was asked to provide my bona fides, and so gave them links to my resume and main website. Even though I've been a blogger since 2003, live a mile from the AZ border, worked on the Marine base for three years and spoke at Phyllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum Council in 2005, I was still denied access.

Their reason?

They think poorly of Examiner gun rights guys, so therefore I can't be counted on to behave myself in public. Sheesh!

Since the Gun Rights Examiners I've read all seem to be decent people, I really don't get this. So maybe some of you can give me the skinny on this direct -- don't want to bother the main list with my petty issues.

THX!

Imagine that! They think poorly of all the GREs? There are now 14 of us, you know, all of us our own people representing our own views. Do they even think poorly of the GREs repeatedly invited back to Cam & Co.? Or just of me? And they'll take that out on one of the writers in any of 60 venues across the nation because of it? Talk about guilt by association.

Besides, since when have I been known not to behave myself in public? The Bashers have never met me in person.

Wanting to get to the bottom of things, I went to their site and registered. And wanting to go with a friend of mine, I got Mike Vanderboegh to register. That was this morning.

Imagine my surprise when I invited another friend to register and we found that in the ensuing moments since Mike and my registration, the sign-up form had... disappeared. What you get instead is an "Error 404 – File not Found" message.

And imagine my surprise when I noticed the following new announcement (that does not yet appear on the home page I just took a screen shot of):
2009 Registration Closed

Registration has now been closed. Following the Mitt Spammers, Sarah Stalkers, and an email I received warning me that people were asked to submit fake registrations, I have been forced to close it early. The demands on the server and my time to sort out the real from the fake are just too high.
Really? And it just now came to a head? And I shouldn't take it personally, despite what a complete stranger to me said on our Examiner board? What a relief!

But no one else from this point forward will be admitted, right? They don't have time even for people they know are real? I mean, Mike and I have the receipt from our apps--they know we're not Mitt Munchers or Sarah Spitters or whatever they call them. And we got ours in before they closed the gate.

Look, I never go where I'm not welcome. If they don't want me to attend, all they have to do is say so. But what about the innocent AZ Examiner who got her application in before the conveniently sudden decision to stop taking applications--and was summarily rejected because I'm thought poorly of? What's the deal with that?

Maybe Bitter, who is running this, would like to weigh in? Assuming the demands on her time to sort through some questions and comments here aren't just too high?

Does Bill Cosby Agree with Idi Amin Henchman that 'Brave' Somali Pirates 'Had No Choice'?

The message is clear, but what the heck does Bill Cosby have to do with genocidal tyrant apologist Bob Astles, or the message promulgated by the Black Star News?

Just this. It's publisher/editor-in-chief, Milton Allimadi, proudly proclaims he "co-founded The Black Star News in 1997 with some savings and with seed money from Camille and Bill Cosby."

Since he bears partial economic investment responsibility for inflicting these people on us, and since the message they promote appears in direct contradiction to the one he preaches, I don't think it's out of line to ask Mr. Cosby if he wants to continue having his name associated with this paper. I think it's fair to ask him and how he likes his "seed money" being used to poison minds in the community he is trying to help with this kind of obscene, hateful nonsense. What Jimmy Carter Thinks of You

I have used weapons since I was big enough to carry one, and now own two handguns, four shotguns and three rifles, two with scopes. I use them carefully, for hunting game from our family woods and fields, and occasionally for hunting with my family and friends in other places. We cherish the right to own a gun and some of my hunting companions like to collect rare weapons. One of them is a superb craftsman who makes muzzle-loading rifles, one of which I displayed for four years in my private White House office.

But none of us wants to own an assault weapon, because we have no desire to kill policemen or go to a school or workplace to see how many victims we can accumulate before we are finally shot or take our own lives. [More]

The Let's See How Far We Can Push Them Act of 2009

...is now online. [More]

Brought to you in part by "A"-rated Kirsten Gillibrand!

And if this works, we'll be back!

[Via W-3]

UPDATE: Analysis from Joe via Skip (and yeah, I've corresponded with both these guys for years):
This is essentially the old McCain-Lieberman gun show bill from eight years ago (S.890), in slightly lighter form.

"Gun show promoters" must register with the Attorney General and maintain a register with the signature and identifying data of all "vendors." (carefully examine the definition of vendor.)

"Vendor" is ANYONE who offers for sale/trade/etc a gun at a gun show, whether the person has a fixed location (e.g. table holder) or not (e.g. a guy walking around the show with a firearm for sale/trade).

The requirement for an FFL-conducted background check (NICS check) apply "if any part of a firearm transaction takes place at a gun show." For example, you see a gun you like, offered by a private seller (non-FFL), but you don't agree on a price. Later in the week you call the guy and make another offer. THAT transfer must be done through an FFL. This could be stretched to include just SEEING a gun offered for sale, because the initial contact was at a gun show.

FFLs, in addition to the existing paperwork requirements (new forms as specified by the AG, and a new "bound book"), must report to the Attorney General within 10 days, all transactions processed at a gun show. Unlike a storefront FFL, who must simply maintain the records for examination by competent authority, gun show transfer data must be sent to the AG.

Federal felony penalties apply to any violation, procedural or otherwise.

Man who fled sex conviction for abusing female inmate in Swedish prison found working at Sheridan Correctional Center under real name [More]
So, isn't rape a big part about how "Only Ones" keep inmates in line...? Seems like he brought some valuable experience to the job...

The Impossible Dream

Cleanup ATF [More]
www.CleanUpATF.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to returning integrity, accountability and decency to the management of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE or "ATF").

“In the Border Patrol Checkpoint, the Person’s Rights Doesn’t Matter Here.”

What authoritarian meatheads the government employs. [More]

Kudos to a brave citizen for standing up for his rights, which is apparently officially "suspicious."

I'm sure there is no shortage of cud-chewers who would tell us he shouldn't have a problem if he has nothing to hide.

What Will be Prosecuted

Having a gun, silly. [More]

I think I'll do a GRE column on this tomorrow.

Education at the Extreme

With President Barack Obama’s Cabinet reading like a “who’s who” of gun-ban advocates, it’s difficult to say which member is the most anti-gun. That is, until you meet Arne Duncan. [More]
Good article by Dave Kopel. It really shows what kind of anti-American freaks the head anti-American freak surrounds himself with.

Haunting Larry Hincker

Well here's an interesting visitor...

I wonder what's in Blackburg...?

And look what brought them here...

Damn straight. His words should haunt him forever. And I'm delighted to be doing my part to see that they will.

'Transforming Concern into Action' Endangers Lawful Gun Owners

Let's "transform that concern into action" and see how this will work in practice. Let's take a look at what will happen to a gun owner minding his own business and not breaking any laws...[More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column demonstrates how the implementation of "Kumbaya" requires the threat of deadly force as we revisit the actions of an official who really ought to be reported to the authorities...

I just had a thought--I'm going to see if I can find out more about the exhibit this talks about--I wonder how many of those shirts memorialize someone with gang affiliations...?

Also get the latest from my fellow GREs.

That Great Britain will exert every nerve to carry her tyrannical designs into execution, I have not the smallest doubt; her very existence as a nation depends now upon her success: for should America rise triumphant in her struggle for independence she must fall. It is not to be wondered at therefore, after she had departed from that line of justice which ought to characterize a virtuous people, that she should descend to such low arts, and dirty tricks, as will forever remain a reproach to her; none of which has she practised with more success, and I fear with more dangerous consequences to our cause, than her endeavours to depreciate the continental bills of credit. Interesting Debate...

...between "CIFTA" and "Anti-CIFTA" in the "Comments" section. [More]

Feel free to go there and join in.

Hate Criminals

Legendary firearms instructor and pundit Jeff Cooper put it best. "In my opinion," he said, "neither money nor greed ... is the root of all evil. The root of all evil is envy. The non-coper hates the coper, and thus the non-shooter hates the shooter. [More]
Personal inadequacy and hatred explains what we see about as well as anything else.

It's Just a Tool

Let's hope Oath Keepers are the ones using it. [More]

And no, I don't say that as an endorsement of "Only One-ism".

The Unintended Consequences of Despotism.

Throughout history, despotic regimes and brutal collectivist systems have crushed their civilian populations' backbones, burning to death their freedom and liberty, and using tactics of intimidation and terror against anyone they suspected of harboring "deviant" thoughts. However, these attempts at cowing the people they rule over almost never succeed, because one of the most deadliest unintended consequences of despotism, is that it will create entirely new and terrifying fighting arts and methods of resistance amongst the oppressed. That's what can happen when you make people outlaws?

So another way of saying this might be: Without regulation, incentivized ingenuity is unrestrained...?

Pro-Gun Profs

As college professors, we want to reduce the odds of a Virginia Tech massacre happening on a Texas college campus. That's why we encourage the Texas Legislature to allow concealed carry on the state's college campuses. [More]
In the mean time, I'd just ignore the damn legislature, but that's me.

I also wish academia would notice this, by the late Preston Covey: "Can Gun Control Reduce Violence?". It's been languishing in my archives not doing much good for the past few years, and one of Prof. Covey's wishes was that it be shared "in the spirit of 'pass the ammunition'."

You can read more about this remarkable man here, here, here, here and here.

Don't forget the DDTC/ITAR Threat to Guns. You Knew About It, Right?

It's important that we know what's on the horizon, but it's critical we pay attention to what's here now. And I mentioned a third international danger in last Friday's column that's not getting much attention: The DDTC.

The DDTwhat?

It stands for Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, and the threat is masterfully summarized by Robin Taylor of the US Practical Shooting Association, who tells us "It's not about Trade, it's about Control." [More]
We've heard a lot recently about the threat of international treaties to the right to keep and bear arms. How many of you knew such mechanisms are already in place? Today's Gun Rights Examiner column tells us about them, and about how George Bush played a key role in ensuring a negative outcome.

Also access a WorldNetDaily article that gives Kurt Hofmann and yours truly some ink...uh...electrons, read the latest from my fellow GREs, and learn how you can become an illegal international arms trafficker. You're just a few mouse clicks away!

I think this move so probable, as it will give them access to a part of the Country most notoriously disaffected, that I desire you will post a Body of Militia of the State of New York, on this side of the North River, in such place as you shall think most safe to prevent them from being Surprised, and at the same time proper to intercept Skinners Corps, if they should attempt the above mentioned route. 2nd Amendment Trumps Local Gun Limits

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in California has ruled that the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms is "deeply rooted in this nation's history and tradition" and long has been regarded as the "true palladium of liberty," so it therefore must be applied against state and local government weapon restrictions as well as federal gun limits. [More]
Yes, I know you know that because we've already talked about it here.

But this story cites related columns written by St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner Kurt Hofmann and yours truly.

Night of a Thousand Tips

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has stated that it is legal in Wisconsin for citizens to carry guns openly in a peaceful manner. However, Chief Flynn is ordering his officers to “take down” citizens, “put them on the ground” and disarm them, and “then decide whether you have a right to carry it.” [More]
Here's more substantiation.

Well, there's only one thing to do, since he is illegally demanding that citizens be arrested under color of authority--send in an anonymous tip demanding his arrest.

Won't you join me?

Come on people, invest one minute. And let's see if we can't get this idea spread all over.

Let's put his arrogant/elitist "Only One" ass "on the ground."

UPDATE: Everyone is reporting an error message when the tip form is submitted. It doesn't mean they're not getting them, but we have no way of knowing. Anyway, there's more than one way to skin a cat--here's their Contact Us" edress: webhelp@milwaukee.gov

Anyone Hear...

If the FBI is visiting gun stores due to this...?

Please leave a comment below if you have credible information. If you have reliable gun store contacts, please ask them.

I Just Now Realized Today is...

Wish I'd remembered earlier. I'd have made arrangements to go and return some lead to Mother Gaia.

You know, kind of like "giving back to the community."

There's Something About Kirsten

I've talked about it here. A lot.

So when do you think NRA and NYSRPA are going to say something about it to their members?

Funny that they haven't by now, don't you think? I wonder why that is...

We're the Only Ones "Now Comes Miller Time" Enough

Erie, Pennsylvania police Patrolman James Cousins II was off-duty and well into his cups the night of April 6 as he regaled bar patrons with tales of his on-the-job exploits. [More]
Yeah, this sloppy punk is the "Only One" trustworthy enough to carry a gun and I'm not.

And neither are you.
