Success of Sorts

It's not pretty. It's not sophisticated. There's plenty of room for improvement and helpful features.

But by God, after several days of inventing new cuss words and letting my inner ADD make me no fun to be around, I threw out the "new improved" block Word Press, installed the Classic template and I have myself a new online journal independent of the censorship that drove me from this place, where I've been since 2005.

Barring any disasters that make me come running back here with my tail between my legs, future posts will happen at the new digs: HERE.

'I Find Myself to be Exorbitantly Superannuated for This Feculence'

Trying to set up the new site has been an exercise in pure frustration. It sure adds a whole new dimension to "A man's gotta know his limitations."

Nothing about it is intuitive.  You'd think if you pressed an "Edit" icon you'd be able to edit, or if you tried to delete something it would delete.

I want the simplest site in the world-- a home page, an about page with info and contact, both of which will remain static, and a blog that lets me do regular updates like I do here. They've got so many different things to choose from, none of which explain what they're talking about or define terms they just assume you know. And my personal favorite -- tutorials that tell you to select options that appear nowhere on the page I've accessed. 

Word Press has discarded the classic interface and replaced it with a block thingy they say is simpler and has me ready to scream-- I have a few times already.  Forget trying to chat or call "tech support"-- they only do tech stuff and I miss half of what they're saying just through accents alone. I think I'm going to need to hire a local to come in for a day to set me up -- I know some of you have kindly offered to advise but that's something I can't do long distance because there's too much I just don't get.

The Blogspot censorship issue is still unresolved and I still get the "Under Review" message with no way to find out what the "community guidelines" issue is. By going through a process of elimination, my guess would be "Misleading content related to civic and democratic processes." 

Talk about people who live in glass houses... that whole section reads like an excuse to eliminate wrongthink on whatever topic they like, from elections to COVID, with Big Techtators doing the dirty work the First Amendment says their government partners can't get away with -- yet. And in keeping with the way totalitarians roll, that's heavily reliant on cultivating an anonymous snitch culture:

Clearly, it makes no sense to spend time doing work that enemy trolls can have arbitrarily undone at the push of a button. So until such time as I am set up in a safer harbor, putting in work makes no sense. That's why, until I do that, I'm going to continue to limit posts to pure self-promotion: announcements for my new articles, radio appearances, and the like.

And speaking of that new venue, I tried several different options that for one reason or another didn't strike me as a right fit, but finally identified a new host I'm going to try. The holdup now is getting GoDaddy (another self-appointed arbiter of "acceptable" speech) to release my WarOnGuns.com domain name, and it looks like that process can take anywhere from seven to 10 days. 

That means I'm probably looking at up to two more weeks before the rollout, and I still haven't decided if I'm going to try to migrate this existing blog to the new home. I'm leaning towards "not" since there will be formatting compatibility and search engine issues, I don't want to lose existing comments, technically I'm a child with no interest or time to change, plus the new place may not work out.

So: Keep holding the tips. I'll be back when I can. My own announcements will continue (a new Firearms News piece is out I'll be linking to after they fix a glaring typo I made in the first paragraph that also eluded spell check and Grammarly 😖).

Community Standards Strike Again

It linked to "blue check" correspondent Paul Bedard's Washington Examiner report on a peer-reviewed study by John Lott published in the journal Public Choice. 

Incidentally, its link appears on a general Google search including on Google Cache, but is suppressed in a "News" search, with an article attacking Lott's work appearing at the top of the page by two "researchers" of undisclosed political affinity that my money says will turn out to be sympathetic to Democrats. 

My suspicion is an algorithm went searching to erase it from existence. If this is all it takes to get booted from a personal opinion and commentary blog, everything I post here is subject to being undone and Blogger is no longer a viable platform to publish on. Either that or some troll saboteur complained, and the same applies. Until I see if I can get this reversed, I'm going to need to limit activity here to promoting my articles as I search for a reliable repository for my work.
