Brady Center and DOJ file briefs against state gun sovereignty

[S]omehow, I don't think either is going to address the federal mandate of "shall not be infringed," let alone satisfactorily explain what the Founders had in mind when they wrote: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Documents have been filed. Read them here.

GRE Round Up for May 18

There's some good stuff being turned out by the Gun Rights Examiners. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Paul Valone/Charlotte:
Marriott exposes NRA conventioneers to criminal prosecution

Mike Stollenwerk/DC:
American media's reporting on gun rights grows more accurate

Steve D. Jones/Fort Smith:
Arkansas primary election picks

Liston Matthews/Knoxville:
NRA 2010 convention in Charlotte, Part I: Inconsistent security

Dave Workman/Seattle:
St. Helens doesn’t seem like 30 years ago, and then, again…

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
Go. Read. And please share these links.

You're doing that, right?

Guns Aren't Just for 'Straights'

There was one Second Amendment March speech that was not included with the others I've been writing about in recent days. I understand we all have a right to promote that which we think advances our cause, so it's not my place to presume what someone else chooses to showcase. I will, however, take this opportunity to do what I can to promote the right of all peaceable people to keep and bear arms on a site where I control the content.[More]
A video got overlooked in the mix of those presented so far. I'm doing what I can to make sure all who made an effort on that day are recognized for their service to promoting RKBA.

We're the Only Ones NOT Going Off On Our Own Enough

Fieger, however, said the official account was full of "utter fabrications." He said he has seen a video showing police throwing the grenade and then shooting into the home from the porch. [More]
So he's saying this was basically a lie and official cover up?

Really? Detroit "Only Ones" would do that?

I want to show you something. It's my shocked face.

We're the Only Ones For the Birds Enough

"It's a shame when something like that happens because her intentions were good," Stallings said. "She absolutely needed to rescue it, and a wildlife rehabilitation center would have raised and released it. [More]
Because we're the "Only Ones"...and our function is to tell you what you can and cannot do.

And we're willing to show up with armed enforcers to keep it that way.

Now where's that albino deer we want to kill?

They let no good deed go unpunished, do they?

Walking a Mile in Their Jackboots

In determining whether an officer had probable cause, I place myself in the shoes of a reasonable person in the position of the officer, not an omniscient observer, id., and I consider the totality of the circumstances. [More]
If only Gonzalez had the magic raiments and amulet...the ruminants could have gone back to digesting their cuds. (As an aside, it sounds like he needs to educate his brother about not talking to the police.)

Maybe Judge Adelman meant "totalitarianism" instead of "totality"? Because a mere citizen can't legally carry concealed there, so ruling open carriers can be harassed like this is a huge "Gotcha!"

But hey, we all know the only reasonable armed people in Wisconsin are "Only Ones," right? Just ask Michelle and Tyler...

Figures, for a Clinton appointee.

And for someone Herb Kohl wants Obama togive even more judicial weight to.

UPDATE: This really changes nothing as far as the above observations in re the principles of peaceable armed citizens are concerned. So expect the anti-defense authority worshipers to act like it's representative, and that it confirms only Michelle and Tyler should have guns. And also keep in mind Gonzalez claims the men were trying to assault him and that he called 911.

Examiner Down Yet Again

They're trying to do some big site redesign and reworking of the publishing tool.

I've told management to let me know when their tech team can provide a stable platform. Until then, I'm not willing to go through the not inconsiderable work of prepping and promoting an article.

I've got a column ready to go once I get a green light.
