Oh, by complete accident, I'm sure. Why I'm certain any speculation about "discipline" or retaliation would be completely irresponsible.

But it does raise the question: If the "Only Ones" can't protect people in their custody, how the hell are they supposed to protect people who aren't?

I didn't want to say too much about Obama trying to disarm the pilots because I may do a column tomorrow, as GRE colleague Paul Valone did today.

Then again, I may not. I'm still a bit peeved.

I will note that it looks like the government is getting closer to adopting an obvious solution I proposed years back--and not just for air travelers, but, well, for everywhere we need to protect ourselves from each other.

A Fact that Needs Emphasis

Why is that buried in the story to where it would be easy to miss?

Why does it seemingly, at least on a cursory look, merit no headlines?

And is it any surprise to find other topics where the media has failed in its primary task?

We're the Only Ones Second Responder Enough

It all started after a burglar alarm at the car dealership on East Napoleon. An employee arrived ahead of police and went inside to check the business. He had a flashlight and a gun. When police saw the employee inside they thought he was an armed burglar and fired shots, while the employee thought he was being fired at by a burglar. [More]

Naturally, the chief defends his guy for firing the first shots.

I guess it beats admitting to "Only One" training deficiencies. But it make me wonder how plain clothes officers can react during violent crimes with any degree of confidence that their greatest danger won't be "friendly fire". Then again, noting the marksmanship, perhaps I worry too much.

Ah well--failing to kill him, at least they arrested the poor sap who returned fire...

A Day of Miracles

This is indeed a day of miracles, both courtesy of the miraculous Len Savage.

First he leads me to the LA Times telling the truth about how Mexican cartels get their arms, and then he tells me Republican-Appointee-2Ais-a-collective-right Reggie rules against BATFU.

So Much for Arming the Cartels

Traffickers have escalated their arms race, acquiring military-grade weapons, including hand grenades, grenade launchers, armor-piercing munitions and antitank rockets with firepower far beyond the assault rifles and pistols that have dominated their arsenals.

Most of these weapons are being smuggled from Central American countries or by sea, eluding U.S. and Mexican monitors who are focused on the smuggling of semiauto- matic and conventional weapons purchased from dealers in the U.S. border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. [More]

Ammunition Controversy Shows Failure of Mainstream Media to Inform Gun Owners

But the other thing I want to point out is a total failure of "mainstream media," the ones going belly up, the ones deriding alternative media, bloggers, activists, et al, to bring this story to the public's attention. This isn't a case of them getting it wrong--this is a case of them not getting it at all. Here's the irony: If we had read about this on any of the establishment outlets that traditionally fail us, most would have accepted it without question. [More]

Doubts were raised about the authenticity of my report yesterday. Today's Gun Rights Examiner column puts them to rest, and observes the irony of placing trust in the same media that consistently proves itself unreliable.
