A seven-year-old girl has been injured after a police firearms expert accidentally discharged a gun during a demonstration. Nottinghamshire Police said the girl suffered a "minor injury to her lip" after the terrifying incident at the police headquarters. [More]That's some "expert." And naturally, "the police force only made a public admission after details of the incident leaked out."
Pip-pip! Jolly good, eh, wot?

Most amazing to me is that the crud actually admits to "accidental" discharge, instead of describing in the passive voice as they are prone to do. Ya know: the "trigger-pulling phantom"! It just "went off"!
They say the discharge was into the ground, they say the girl had a minor lip injury, and they say hot brass hit her lip, which as we all know can be uncomfortable.
So, the difference between a USA LE ND and a UK LE ND is muzzle control. A USA police weapons expert would have shot flesh.
"...Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner said he believed it had been caused by an ammunition cartridge which fell and bounced as the weapon was fired."
